How much content in another language would you allow?

Many have said they wouldn't allow posts in other languages, while others have decided they would use fluent members or machine translation to figure out what was said and try to support users who don't speak the dominant language of the forums. But what do you do when the post is provided for you in two languages by the user? Do you accept their translation or do you still throw it out on the grounds that you don't know if it's accurate? What if the user just says a phrase in another language?

 

I'd accept the translation, why not.

 

We only allow english.

Due to the language barrier, I'd find it to be a bit difficult managing a community that allows a variety of foreign language(s). Even with a translator, I wouldn't feel comfortable allowing it.

 

Yeah, it's still English only for me. I'd consider having a thread or forum (depending on the niche) for international discussion assuming I have already have a regular moderator that can control it.

 

Have any of you guys seen the new automatic translation modification released at the org? It uses the Google Translator API and translates all content on the site. Looks promising, but I'd like to give it time to develop.

 

I was considering it but:

1. That would 'lock' my site into using that forever once people got used to using it from other countries and I have no way of knowing how long that product (plugin?) would exist, or how well that would be supported with new versions of vB.
2. It requires 2 databases and a few other things and my first impression is that it would not work on a shared hosting account.

 

I have an international section with about a dozen different languages and nations listed. As long as they post in the proper section, they can post all they want.

I'am also lucky enough to have members from all over the world, who speak a wide range of languages. They help keep an eye on things in the non-english sections.
