Google has been doing a lot of updates to its search engine this year alone.

This place has the full run down of the updates that have happened http://www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change

I'll post a summary of some of the recent ones though:
Google panda has effected a lot of non-quality websites, blogs, and forums, but the quality sites seem to be winning the most since these updates have taken effect.

But, how are you doing in regards to Google rankings and these updates? Have you rankings increased or have they declined? What are you doing to help get your rankings up to par - if they were dropped. Personally, quality links will always keep your site afloat on the search engines. Without any link backs, don't expect success on Google or any other search engines.

Blogs has sailed smooth waters! :) But my forum network on the other hand is a different situation. I'm seeing some traffic drops on CODForums. But otherwise, CODForums stays at #1. I just converted a halo forum over to xenforo, and its taking quite a long time since most of the old links are on a directory folder.

Ended up getting to the top of google quite quickly, even though my forum is pretty new!

You should be re-writing your old links to direct to the new forum.

I thought a simple "board closed" with the link to the forum new forum... would work...?

I guess I should put redirects in, then.

You have to use server side 301 redirects to keep your rankings.

Hm. Well the pages are indexed because I have a sitemap, but the slowness is on the part of Google. Customers aren't finding our site with Halo-related keywords. So, come next month, I fear that I won't be able to capture the Halo 4 keywords. :(

But, I will do redirections soon.

Any back links to your old site are dead ends now. You need to rewrite them all to point to your new domain.

This is an important part of any migration or change in domain / URL.

Those updates that you posted above, namely the Panda and Penguin are only some of the updates that Google do every year. These are the only updates which they officially state and hence we shall become aware of the same. But they make more than 200-500 updates to their search algorithm every year, and most of them shall go unnoticed.

Mine are mostly holding steady, I guess. I noticed a drop in some areas, but not a noticeable enough one to make me worry. The rest seem to be just the same or fluctuating normally.
