    Hi guys,

I'm looking for a very feature-full web-based intranet application. The only good one I have come across is OfficeZilla, but I'd like something different than that. OfficeZilla is great, but something about it has me wanting more...

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Looks interesting but its hosted. I am always leery of hosted solutions. Had looked into this myself in the past but never really found something that fit my needs. However I want software to run a home intranet which is a little different than a business one.

It is for collaboration. You can share calendars, task lists, work on documents as a team and other functions. Just web-based workgroup software. Very common in business where you might have up to 30 people working on a single document.

Ohh, now I see why would it come handy, though would be reliable even if not hosted by you? What if something happens to the sit?

It's used as a method of communication between team members - let's say that you wanted to collaboratively work on a document with your fellow staff members. By using such a web-based service (or software script), you could simply log in and edit the document as you wish, at will. It's more of a virtual "conference", if anything.

    It's quite handy.

Am I the only one who is okay for using Google Docs for more than 2 person collaboration?

How about just emailing the file back and fourth then talk about the changes via IM or phone?

Google Docs is okay but not very featured filled. I am sure some use it though. I found it to be lackluster and slow when I tried it.

In my case, I want to have a family based intranet. We have a computer in each bedroom as it is. It would be nice if I could set up a chore list for the day and each kid would see it on their screen when they get up. I could set it up so that when they do their chores, they earn credits that they can spend at iTunes or Amazon.

Or if someone wants a particular item from the next grocery trip, they can just add it to a list. Later when myself or my wife goes to the store, we can just print it. Or better yet, access it from our phones at the store.

Also something that keeps track of car maintenance so that we can not only have a record but it can warn us with a visual alert when its needed. A shared calendar would be nice as well with all the birthdays and events throughout the year. Don't really trust the security on Google or MSN for that. Would like to keep it inhouse.

Have thought about writing one for several years but haven't had the time. So we still use paper.

I haven't looked at Google Docs in months, but if you check out OfficeZilla, you will see that it has a much greater feature set than Google Docs does. Google Docs is great for collaboration on a few files/documents, but not full projects. We need projects, milestones, task lists, calendars, and all the bells and whistles. :)
