It has been a long time since I've had to worry about any browser issues.

I'm using Fire Fox 3.0.1 and I think FF runs Flash all by itself without any help from an Adobe, am I right?

Is there a way of upgrading that flash to 10 without resorting to Adobe?

I'm a little lost at the moment and people are waiting for me to review their videos.

    "Never mind".

Firefox actually has a useful online help. It seems they give clear instructions what exactly needs to be downloaded from Adobe.

Seems more stable than 3.0.X. Seems having native support they are able to get rid of the memory leak with Flash that has existed since 1.0. So that is a good thing. I can leave windows with Flash in them open like Pandora, YouTube or even simple advertising and not worry about coming back to a browser gobbling up 1 GB of RAM. Haven't really noticed much of a speed difference but its only Javascript processing that has been improved in this version. 3.6 is supposed to bring UI speed improvements.

A few addons like Codeburner, Google Gears, and Prism aren't compatible yet but they aren't of much consequence. It also doesn't have native support for Windows 7 Features yet like Jumplists or Taskbar support so that is a bit of a drag but not deal killing.

Oh wow, I'm very glad to hear about the supposed fix to the memory leak. That's quite an improvement; I'm going to upgrade right now! :)

Think I'll wait for the final release now that my flash is upgraded.

Thank you for the information, especially regarding the memory leak issue in FF. :)

And it appears 3.5 has been officially released. Is this the part you are referring to?

    Open Video and Audio
Introducing the future of online media! Firefox is the first browser to support open video and audio formats, allowing practically limitless new ways for sites to display rich content. The open formats also allow modern web pages to display media without requiring a plug-in or a proprietary software download.

Yep. Shame they didn't include PDF format as well. Then I could kick Adobe and their crappy software to the curb.

I really hate how bloated Adobe reader is, I've been using Fox It and it has been working well. Of course having pdf viewing in a browser would be much better assuming the other pdf features were included like save, pan, etc.

Since this thread is titled "Fire Fox question" I'll keep going :)

When would the added speed of 3.5 be beneficial in real life? My impression is that my internet connection is the limiting factor.

The only speed benefit including in Firefox 3.5 has nothing to do with your internet connection. What they did was added a new Javascript parsing engine that is supposed to speed up Javascript execution by an order of magnitude. If you use Javascript heavy pages like Google Docs, Gmail, or even vBulletin, then you should see a speed increase in those pages.

In reality, the speed increases that I have seen are minimal at best. Of course, My javascript timer was broken by the upgrade and I have to wait for a new version of the addon to see how milliseconds I save in a page load.

To me it looks like the real speed improvements will be in Firefox 3.6. Though we'll have to wait and see. The first 3.6 nightly will be out tonight so... Though I doubt it will have any of the changes yet.

That was my point. In real life from the users point of view is 3.5 quicker considering all the other things that could be causing delays such as a the internet connection.

    Thanks!

So far I'm finding 3.5 working much better. The 3.0 line was hitting 350-400 thousand on memory usage and now with 3.5 It's settling around the 120 thousand mark which is better. This plagued me and started with the 3.0 line.

I couldn't use adobe pdf. it's slow and overly bloated. I prefer using foxit until something better comes along.

A few of my plugins aren't compatible with 3.5 but I think i can live with that.
