Is there a way to exclude certain forums from showing in the 'today's posts' or 'new posts' by user?

If so, how do you do it?

    Thanks Kevin.

But, that looks like it's a site-wide option. I'd like to make it so that it's a "user profile" option. That way, if they choose to do so, they can exclude certain forums from showing when they do their searches.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks again Kevin. Looks like that's what I want to do, but the mod seems to have some issues for most people who have posted on there.

    Anyone know of another option?

You could do this with custom profile fields. But if you don't want to have to create a field for each forum you have, the only alternative I can think of is having your users enter a list of forum IDs they want to exclude in a text-box field.

That's probably not a viable option though.

We use a modification here that allows users to totally exclude certain forums from searches, but it also removes them from view -- as if they are non-existent. Does that do more than what you want?

I still want to show the forums, but only exclude them in the searches. So, I guess I'll give that mod that Kevin mentioned a try. If not, then I'll keep looking.

Please don't hesitate to post here though in case you find a solution ;)

I am looking for the ability to do it exactly how you guys have it here. Would I be able to get some information how you were able to set this up with a profile field?

    Thanks!

err, that seems to be for hiding postbit info. I am looking for hiding forums from the index AND new posts searches like you guys have here...

Oops, my bad! That's what I get for skimming and not reading. :P

Is this what you're after? Selective Forum Filter - vBulletin.org Forum
And to hide the "New Posts" link in the navbar, simply wrap the link with a conditional.
    Code:
    <if condition="$vbulletin->userinfo['field[I][B]X[/B][/I]] == '1'">
(That is, "if field X is ticked (check-box), then show __" )
