Whats the differece in these ending codes?

Theres a web page name that I want...but the .com is taken...so what would be the next one to use? Is there any difference between .com, .net, .org ect. ?

You would want .net I would say, but really if it is a large(r) site that holds the .com they may come along and grab the name from you at a later date.

It is usually better to stay away from names that already have the .com's taken.

yeah for my website my url was available as it is going to grow into a network and I thought .net looked better haha! I don't personally know the difference.

.com is Commercial, .net is Internet, .org is an Organisation. .co.uk is UK Commercial, .org.uk is a UK Organisation, and so on, using all the country codes.

I agree with the above. If the .com is taken and it's an established brand, then taking 'their' .net and using it for anything remotely similar AFTER they have already established a brand is risk in any country, and especially the layer-heavy US. lol

If it's for something totally different to the existing .com, then it's a maybe. But out of all the available domain names I'd choose another myself. And if the website is important, I'd nab the .com, .net and .co.uk in my case at the very least. Leaving the .org behind and easy to take once I've established a 'brand' (name at least).

Some extensions require that you be a citizen of that country, such as .us, .uk, .ch,,, but I have found several .us registered to people in china.

If the .com that I want is already bought, chances are its a parked domain. So I will buy the .us, or .net.

I used to buy the hyphenated version of the name if the .com was already taken, but lately I've been putting more effort into figuring out alternate names without hyphens.
