Pointless thread. The answer to the question is posted, literally, dozens of places throughout the vBulletin forums. IB has NEVER claimed the product was ready for live production sites. The most they have done is to have removed the product from Beta.

    You must be joking.

No way in hell is it recommended for a live site. Even if vBulletin themselves only just avoid saying it's a 'gold' version.

That's not entirely correct according to Lawrence Cole.

Okay, so the minute someone stops being employed by the company, their previous statements all become void? That seems a bit of a strange thing to assume.

Personally, I'd say to chill a bit and stop trying to defend Internet Brands at every possible opportunity.

    Well, as it happens... :D

There was the legendary case of 'Fabian's List': http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/foru...at-s-to-come-for-vbulletin-part-ii#post370174

He was axed and his list of intended improvements past mostly into history. In fact I've just noticed this has been added to his post!

That is patently false. IB never claimed any version was a Gold Release.

What do you think 'emerged from beta' means in this context? It's from an Internet Brands press release. They said it was 'gold', then maybe backpedalled afterwards. Get over it.

IB never said the product was a Gold Release. Period. There was nothing from which to backpedal.
As someone who owns the product and has owned the product from the date it was released as a Beta I would know if it had received the "Gold" label because that label affects my product support.
Wikipedia says so is no defense of an invalid argument.

They mentioned in a beta release that it was out of beta. What else does that mean? If it's 'out of beta', then it can't be 'still in beta'.

They even say here they've removed the beta label:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/foru.../3943956-vbulletin-5-connect-is-now-available

Don't try and pretend that Internet Brands are treating vBulletin 5 as anything but the gold version of the product. Oh sure, it doesn't have exactly one word marked down. But everywhere its written about, they mention it with no beta, release candidate or other similar tag, which pretty much states clearly that this is the gold' version of the product. Find me one place outside the forums here which says vBulletin 5 is a 'beta' product:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/

Because as far as I know, it doesn't.

No loopholes here, vBulletin 5 is 'gold' and that's what Internet Brands says it is.

As far as I know the 30 day countdown on official ticket support started June 1st. Unless another extension comes ticket support for people who purchased it over 30 days ago ends June 30th.

Although management has chosen not to use the 'Gold' label the release of 5.0.0 (non-beta) was initially supposed to be the start of the ticket support count down. That then got moved to June 1st (so support ends June 30th) to give time to get the improvements in 5.0.2 out.

This is exactly the same information I have.
That also confirms there was no "Gold Release" in February.

So what exactly is the difference between " emerged from beta" and "Gold" ?

As a mere customer, it seems a similar thing to me except for the Title.
Maybe we could get an explanation as to the differences between a "fully supported" version and a
    "Gold" one.

The only real difference between "emerged from beta" and "Gold" is the word itself. They both mean the same thing- the product has been designated to be an official release and no longer beta. I don't get why people get so hung up on words.

From our standpoint "beta" versions are not eligible for official support- although we often provided ticket support it was at our discretion. At the 5.0.0 release all customers became officially eligible for ticket support. That was the only real change.

People got hung up on it because IB decided to stop using the term "Gold" ...
That, and because people were incredulous that IB would release that as a gold product.
You have to admit, vB5 was released far too early.
