Does this set of status icons work?

    In my quest to customize my science forum's skin more I've made some status icons with an Erlenmeyer flask. I originally made a version with orange signifying New Posts and blue signifying No New Posts, but didn't like the way the blue looked against the rest of the page. Here I tried lowering the level of the liquid, but now I'm wondering if I should add a second taller Erlenmeyer flask in the background, also changing the liquid level, to make it more visually interesting. Do you think these icons work as is, or should I change them?

    (Please don't take these. Thanks.)

    They look okay, but like Fmb, I agree that they are a bit... bleh.

    Not sure if she's thinking like I am; but to me, bleh is boring.

    Make them transparent on your forums as well, so you dont have to have the white columns and I think it could help alot

    I like them actually - you might try a few things to integrate them into the entire theme.

    1. Make them a bit larger - Perhaps 45x45px
    2. Use the orange instead of blue, as there is no other blue elements in your style
    3. Use the half-full for the new posts - and perhaps no color at all for the no new posts.
    4. The main logo with the swooshes... Use the flasks in that graphic instead of the swooshes - will make the style more completely integrated graphically speaking :)

    btw = Very nice design!

    White columns? Do you mean the highlights on the glass?

    Thanks MsJac, I'll try it larger and with the empty flask. I hadn't thought about putting the flask in the logo, but I'll try that. I originally intended to find some kind of atomic symbol, but you're right, if the flask works it would tie the design together. Thanks!

    Glad to help - I think the previous poster means the alt color of the icons column which IS by default white. I'm not sure I agree with that though, as it is the style... One other thing to consider - perhaps instead of the clear flask for no new posts - may consider making it a #e4e4e4 gray as the 2nd alt color.
