Does anyone else get annoyed when admins or mods incorrectly spell things?

    Does anyone else get annoyed when admins or mods incorrectly spell things?

    Holy moly....I get so annoyed when people in general do not spell things or use proper grammar when communicating. But, as an admin, mod or site owner, you MUST communicate properly to convey a sense of professionalism. Once someone goes to a website and sees words spelled incorrectly or poor grammar used, it's a BIG turnoff to them. :frown:

    So please, do yourselves a favor and take the time to run a spell-check and/or at least re-read what you're typing before clicking submit.

    Sorry, just had to vent a little :)

    I'm not an English major by any stretch of the imagination, but I would definitely want to be perceived as someone that can communicate clearly and professionally. Especially when I'm running my own business online.

    Oh man, I definitely am the same way. The worst is when the forum categories and descriptions aren't spelled correctly, and hardly even make sense. That's usually an instant turn-off.

    One of my moderator requirements is proper spelling, grammar, and typing etiquette. I'm not saying it has to be 100% perfect (because even I am not perfect) but things like capital letters, proper punctuation, as close to perfect spelling as possible, and professional grammar are necessary. There are several wonderful members on my forum that would make great moderators: they have knowledge, they are dedicated to the forum and its niche, and they are wonderful people. But they just don't type in a manner that is presentable from the standpoint of the staff team.

    I personally don't mind much, unless they talk in text speak or something. No, what bothers me more are moderators/admins who don't know much about the topic of their forum, and make mistakes in that sense constantly.

    i dont mind admin and mods making spelling mistakes and stuff, as long as its readable.

    although the names of the different sections in the forum and also things like stickies, rules, announcements, and mass pm/emails sent out should be spelled right.

    there was one forum i was on and the admins spelling was awful. i just found it so irritating that one of the forums sections was "introduce urself" and the warnings i got from her site was in text talk, the only thing i could read was "i am the admin and i do what i want" (also that was put down as my official reason for being banned)

    I don't mind it much on general talk. I do think word and grammar should be correct when you present 'official' rules, FaQ's, and such. As most of that is laying down the law and the law can take it quite literally.

    Is starting off a sentence with "but" grammatically correct? One of my older school teachers taught the class to avoid using that word. Maybe it’s to make your writing sound more professional??:confused:

    Sorry for picking on you, Nick.;)

    Personally I don't mind people misspelling a few words here and there, but you should at least be able to use proper punctuation. On a forum I find that gramatically correct writing attracts more of the "older" group.
