Do you offer an avatar gallery?

I have been on so many different forums lately that offered no avatar gallery whatsoever, and wondered why so many admins aren't bothering to add one. It can't always be because of dislike of avatars in general, as many of these same sites have specified a default avatar. If you haven't added an avatar gallery, why is that?

Yes, I offer a selection of avatars for member to pick from.

Why dont more admins offer them? Because its a lot of trouble, and takes a lot of time to set everything up.

We have default avatars for Setsou Design but for Bird is the Word, it is up to you to find your own.

Mainly because I don't want to add them and know that they will be unused.

I will only add them at the desire of the community.

Kevin is right about it being a bit time consuming. The only reason I have an avatar gallery available for my members on the Linnie Forum is because I got bored one day so decided to set it up.

I really don't like the idea of an avatar gallery unless you *really* have a variety of avatars to offer, because then you get a ton of members who don't feel like uploading their own, then everybody ends up having the same avatar. :p

I provide hundreds of avatars to choose from only because I get really bored and do such things.

I don't know about other forum packages, but at least with vB there's a mod available to make sure each user has a unique avatar. It removes the used ones from the gallery.

On an old forum we had over 4,000 avatars to choose from (all avatars related to the topic of the forum) and you could not upload your own unless you had some kind of special permission from the staff (or you were the staff).

Other than that, no, I don't bother.

I don't offer an avatar gallery to members, no - I have in the past, but only a few of the members chose to use the avatars provided.

Just out of curiosity, I noticed it's open but it's not June 15th yet. What will be the "Grand Opening" tomorrow, if anything?

I opened it up a few days ago to some who volunteered to help add some content for me, and forgot to turn off registrations. So... I guess there's really not going to be any 'grand' opening. Except that I'll change my sig to say that the site's open on all the other forums I'm on - and tweet the heck out of it.

    *shrug* My only fault. :(

I must say, Peggy's default avatars are quite awesome!

Also, her site is too. Only a few of us, but we're getting the most out of it.

Plus, we are nearing the better half of 300 posts.

Too lazy to set one up to tell you the truth. Maybe one day but it is not a priority. Most people who use avatars already have a collection they use regularly.

Umm, well I am going to add one at Pisoga, I think I got the skills enough to do it.

I'd rather provide avatars myself and cut down on the chance of someone uploaded an objectionable or just plain ugly one.

Art is art, never ugly, just different points of view.

I run a music site and had a thread in our announcements forum to allow users to post music related avatars and I'd add them to the gallery. I think they gave me about 300 avatars to add in just a couple of days.

I've decided to 'steal' the ones from RushHour Madness and use them. Actually, I had thought about using them before but seeing them in action put the decision over the top.
