Over the past couple days some of my desktop icons show this icon:

    .

    These include:

    MSN
    Steam
    Adobe Reader
    Safari
    Quick Time Player
Samsung PC Studio (which doesnt even work fullstop)

    And thats it..

Anyone know how to fix it?

Can you remember what you did, just prior to this happening? There was definitely some change.

Going by your icons, you're probably using Windows XP or older. Older versions of Windows do this when they get low on memory. Refresh your desktop. Just right-click on the desktop and choose Refresh.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 actually off-load the screen display to the Graphics card so have less issues with this.

If you're on Windows 7 then the path the shortcut is pointing to is most likely invalid. Did you move icons? Uninstall applications? Anything of the sort?

I have all custom icons on my desktop using PNG files and haven't experienced this in Windows 7.

The only thing i uninstalled was photoshop cs4 because i kept getting an error, reinstalled and it worked perfect (64bit version), but i have no idea when the icons went of if they went after i uninstalled.

But even some icons have changed like Call Of Duty 4, instead of the star with a number 4 on it, it isnt..its the call of duty 4 modern warfare picture (http://dev2.safenetdata.com/~safenet/images/call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare-box.jpg , Without the PC stuff at the bottom)

I'd reset the icons by customizing the shortcut again.
