Ok silly question coming - the .Contact the Staff forum that they have here - no one can see any thread that is in it, except your own thread, i believe. How the heck have they set this up? I know i'm missing something simple i'm sure.

I think theyre able to view threads we post in there and reply directly to us in there too, kind of like a support system but using default vb permissions.

Maybe they have a missing perm for it or not finished setting it up just yet.

I think it's set up with two different user groups, the member group, which can post threads and reply to own threads, but not see the threads started by others, and the staff group which can see and reply to everyone's threads. I think this is their usergroup permission settings:

    Normal Members:

    Can View Forum Yes

    Can View Thread Content Yes

    Can View Others' Threads No

    Can Post Threads Yes

Can Reply to Own Threads Yes

Can Reply to Others' Threads No

    Staff:

    Can View Forum Yes

    Can View Thread Content Yes

    Can View Others' Threads Yes

    Can Post Threads Yes

Can Reply to Own Threads Yes

Can Reply to Others' Threads Yes

Yep, cheat-master nailed it. That is exactly how to set it up. The key setting to pay attention to is "Can view others' threads? - No". :)

This is so simple yet so cool, apparently. I'm glad you guys have implemented this on your own forums. :)

You're empowering Nick, guys. Let's cool down for a bit. :P

In all seriousness, it is an excellent method of contact between members and the staff team. Why deal with e-mails and/or private messages when you could directly communicate via an already familiar interface?
