Have any of you successfully setup and maintained some sort of multi-user blogging platform where members can create their own blog within your site? I've always wanted to set up some sort of WPMU installation but I've always been discouraged because it seems like it takes a lot of effort, work, and tweaking just to allow people to create individual and unique blogs.

I think it would be great for my Linnie Forum because people often maintain journal threads on my forum in which they keep the rest of the community updated in regards to a growing baby chick, or a breeding pair, or something of the like.

What are your experiences with multi-user blogging?

Don't know how successful it will be but one of my plans are to allow paying members to set up blogs when we upgrade software.

I will try to get member feedback before making any decisions.

So to answer your question, I have no experience (yet).

I had the VBblog set up for about a year and it wasn't too successful. I was the main one posting. With my most recent redesign I ditched the blogs. Live and learn.

I'am waiting on vb4 to become a little more stable (fewer bug fixes), and then I'am going to get the publishing suite and the blog.

But as of right now, no, my members do not have any kind of public blog platform. Its something that I would really like to have, but I do not have a solution right now.

vb4 is kind of a beta one, just for trying, There are many bugs that need a fixation I think so I can't judge the blog thingy

I've never had a problem setting up WPMU, I think it's a fantastic script.

Yeah I agree with Brandon. WPMU is fantastic. You might try WP Beta 3 it looks like it will be just as great.

I personally haven't, but know and work for someone who has and it has worked out quite well for him.

    Just a note on this..
The new wordpress has a multi-user option built in.
    It's simple to setup & upgrade. :)
