In the past, I've used these instructions by Jake -- [vB 3.6] How To Put A Space Between Each Forum Category -- to separate categories on the forum. It works like a charm, but it's tedious and is a mess when it comes to upgrading templates.

I just found this modification which is nothing more than a product that you import, set the options, and you're up and running: Category separation - vBulletin.org Forum

It's so much easier than manually editing the templates, so I thought I'd share this find with you guys in case you like to implement the category separations as well. :)

That is a nice find Nick. Thank you!

On ours, we place images in b/t some Cats. I'm not seeing that w/ this plugin, and I don't say that expecting one should. Just relaying what my purpose of the space is for my board.

I used that mod at first with my new forum, but I wanted to customize it even more, and that was a bit of a pain, so I went back to the manual edit method.

It'll be a pain to upgrade, but for my purposes it's worth it. :)

Personally I've always stuck by the motto if it's something you can do yourself with template edits then that's one less product you have installed. Not that this particular product is a bad idea, I've never tried it obviously, but I always prefer doing the edits myself when possible.

That's interesting... to me at least. :P I'd rather avoid having to mess with the templates; especially when it comes time to upgrade. Most of the time my reason for not upgrading is because of the templates I'll have to deal with. :P

Nick: Sometimes the product won't work after an upgrade as well, so it's not a huge deal to just handle the edits yourself IMO. I've gotten pretty quick at it and know where just about everything is now.

Me to and it's usually the same template I have to edit anyway for a custom theme. So one more line of code is nothing.

For basic theme users though this is a great mod.
