For goodness sake, this is ridiculous. Not to mention it's just ultimately screwed over every unofficial vBulletin fan site running the RSS feed from there.

Edit: They apparently tried the same on one of the anti vBulletin blogs recently.

Apparently I've met Mr. Brisco before. I never forget a face - Now if I can remember what function I've met him at.

Reminds me of the early days of my forum in when we were very much an "anti Tiscali" site Tiscali is a UK ISP that had a thriving forum community left over from a company they bought - they then waded in and screwed it up). At one point they threatened me with legal action for "liable" over some of the comments users made, and then sent me a legal notice concerning a screenshot someone posted. They subsequently tried to ban me from using the word "Tiscali" in any post anywhere on my site, which was tricky since it featured in many members personal website addresses in their sigs. Needless to say I ignored everything and never heard another thing. That was some years ago, I remain banned from their forum today. My surname is actually in their word filter - how cool is that??

You guys probably figured this out already, but there is a vBulletin twitter page which is one of the links I posted. That's where I saw the original tweet from Brandon.

I then followed the link over to Brandon's actual twitter page to confirm.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

Brandon has been pretty fair to vBulletin and in their corner for the most part. I really wonder what the logic is in this request. Brandon is a big booster of the brand and product and you would think this could have been handled a little differently.

But that's all speculation until we hear the full story I suppose.

@Mark: Is there any forum you haven't been banned from? :P

@Gordie: Yes - That's what's surprising. I "met" Brandon through Twitter and he backs the product up more than some hard-core vB users I know. So this is just strange, but there might be something we don't know about?

Well on the surface, it seems pretty rediculous.

The first thing that came to my mind was...

    "Everything comes from the top"

And for me, I figured we now know where "it's" coming from.

But I'll reserve final judgement until the full story comes out. Assuming it ever does that is.

Yeah, that's not going to go anywhere.
I wonder just how far these clowns are going to take things before they realize how much damage they're doing to their company?

I'm confused. The twitters are terse to say the least. Can anyone post a link to where actual information is? Or did Brandon get sent something privately and complained on twitter to Bob?

All we see is Brandon's Twitter postings which imply that he got a DMCA. Hopefully he can clarify for us, though.

    It continues to get uglier.

Thats how they want to play now. I said back when I saw how they run their communities they don't really know customer interaction at all...

We'll see how long this lasts as its going currently. There will be people on both sides, but they're sure trying to get people off their side and onto other sides quickly.

    Hi Guys,

I wish I could clarify, but I don't know much other than what you see.

Basically what happened was, I was visiting vbtruth and they have a vBulletin twitter feed on the side bar.

I saw the tweet, clicked on it, visited a few twitter pages and read, what you no doubt read.

I then went to Brandon's site and noticed there was no thread about Brisco's blog, which I thought there was before - I could be wrong though.

Much appreciated, I'm sure more info will be forthcoming.

You may want to remember that the links put up on twitter to this forum will not be usable unless either the forum permissions are changed, or people sign up and log in.

Also, I hope Brandon can send a nice message back by stating that these idiots don't even know the DMCA.

Filing wrongful DMCA suits can be a crime

Check under the Fair Use clause of the DMCA ;)

Well don't take this the wrong way, but I had to do a few other things for the last few hours. Thanks for the update, I'll try to catch up on the other threads soon.

Are we sure as to what the DMCA was for yet?

I mean this admittedly bothers me either way, but I would hope it was sent out for more than just a Twitter feed...

Apparently it's because Brandon posted Bob's blog entry (from vBulletin.com) on his site (vBulletinSetup.com).
