Do you block any usernames from being used? Like Test, Demo or other usernames you don't think people should have on your forum?

I generally don't allow "Admin" or "Administrator" to be used - other than that, I'm fine with [almost] everything else (inappropriate usernames are dealt with after registration).

I generally block names that are for staff that i know who will need them that haven't regged yet. I don't block any names that contain any type of profanity because anyone regging with those names receive a healthy can of ban. awww.adminaddict.net_data_MetaMirrorCache_4c8f1c8663976210ade90614d70ff9d7.gif

Shelley, for some reason, that emoticon reminds me of a dancing stick of deodorant. :D

What are your thoughts on banning "Mod" or "Moderator" from use? It's a staff-related username, but is it really necessary to make it unavailable to the public?

I really don't mind people using 'Administrator or "moderator". I make it very clear who my mods and who the admins are, if a person is new and see the usernames ^^;; reason why they have the rank images.

Now how do you ban a name again...is it in the same area as email accounts?

Anyhow, I'm with Shelly on this one. People signing up with names that use cuss words or crap like Viagra are probably spam. I run their names through the spambot registration sites to double check but they generally get the ban hammer...

I never really get around to devising a list of names to ban, but if I did, I would ban names like "admin, owner, webmaster, root, staff" and any other related misleading titles.

I get an e-mail for every member that registers, so I would handle them individually on a case-by-case basis anyways. :)

I don't block anything. I've never had a problem with someone taking a name like "Administrator" in the past. I don't think anyone would actually do that to try to convince people they are the admin. And if they didn't, it would never work.

i wont allow names with swear words in, and i also blocked some usernames that a member of our forum uses on another forum (she has a problem with a troll impersonating her, and tried to sign up under her name before but i banned him, so i decided to stop that problem happening again)
