I was thinking of Kevin when I saw this a few minutes ago. It seems Yahoo and Microsoft finally came to an agreement.

Why you thinking of me for? What did I do?

Google will come out on top. Too many people make too much money with google adsense to even think about using bing or yahoo.

Until bing and yahoo offer an advertising program like adsense, and a site like youtube, bah, I have no interest.

Anyhow, I'm just thinking we could see a boost in Bing in the future because of this deal.

This morning I heard a radio ad advertising cash back for shopping through Bing; there will definitely be people who will switch over that.

The did the same thing with Live and it didn't take. So Yahoo and MS hooked up. Somehow I see Yahoo as the one thats gonna be doing the walk of shame after this one.

Combined they are 30% of the market. But with any luck they will fix the forum search issues and I'll be happy to take the traffic...

Well Google powered Yahoo's search results for a while. That was when Google was at 90% market penetration. Google canceled the deal when Microsoft dangled $45 billion over Yahoo's head in a buyout offer. Yahoo's CEO refused the offer and was fired by the stockholders.

His replacement was approached by Microsoft to make a deal like this where Microsoft would pay Yahoo $7 Billion for the search engine rights. The CEO refused because he liked selling the company as a whole for $45 Billion. The stockholders fired him and replaced him.

The newest CEO of troubled Yahoo, was approached by Microsoft and was told "We want to power your search and use your search technology to do it." When the CEO asked Microsoft what they were going to pay Yahoo for this, Microsoft said "Nothing. You had your chance to make billions twice. Our offer is that you can keep a higher percentage of the advertising you sell and show on the search engines.". The CEO agreed. So far she hasn't been fired by the stockholders. We'll see if they remain happy.

Microsoft can take another chunk of search from Google as well. AOL is currently a struggling company. It has been spun off into a separate legal entity by its parent Time Warner because of this. AOL uses Google to power the search engine for its millions of users worldwide. If Microsoft approached with the right deal, Time Warner would accept it to stop bleeding money into AOL's operations.

Google isn't #1 in search because people visit Google's website and search. Yeah a lot do and they have a lot of traffic. Google is number one in search because they license that technology and its results to companies like Yahoo and AOL. That is where Microsoft stands to gain and now they have the power to do so. They don't need people to visit bing.com to gain marketshare in search.
