    I'm running 3.8

When I ban a member, members are still able to do a search through their posts. I may need to look up their posts, but would prefer that members can't. I can't recall any way to do that, but I could be missing it.

    Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to accomplish.

If you ban a member then they can no longer log in and make posts to that account, but the previously made posts are all still there. Anyone that can view the banned users profile can search for all the posts that account made, and in advanced search people can specify the banned users name when looking for posts. In addition if the posts exist, and are not deleted, then people would be able to browse the threads and see those posts.

While I suppose there may be a modification which would prohibit people from searching for posts made by a banned member, I don't think that can be done with stock vb3.8 options.

One thing that can be done is simply deleting the banned members account, and that would result is all the previous posts made to be changed to 'guest' as I recall. Then if you had multiple peoples accounts deleted the posts would all be melded together.

Another thing that could be done is simply soft delete all the banned persons post, which would allow the admins to still search & view them.

Maybe simply changing the users name to something completely different would help?

Even though I am banning a member, I'm not sure that I'm comfortable having their posts out there for everyone to view. Not sure why I care about this since I am banning them, but it's something that bothers me. It's probably something I just need to get over.

The problem with deleting them is that I can't search their posts and sometimes I need to do that if I think it's someone trying to slip past me with a second account.

    Thank you for your help.

Admins and moderators on our (almost stock) v3.8.4 forum can search for soft deleted posts.

In addition, we often use 'user notes', often with links to peoples specific posts so we can keep track of behavior issues.
