Automatic database backups (via cron)

After having SEVERAL times where I lost posts because of an old backup, and having to use that old backup for some reason for my site, I have decided that it's time to try and automatic method for the time being. Is this possible, to run an automatic database backup via cron (cPanel)? I've seen some articles about this previously, but since I cannot relocate them now, I'd thought I'd ask you guys about it.

Instead of storing it on your website, it will download your backups to your computer, so if something tragic happens to your server or server's hard drive, you still have a backup of your own, and you can set it for whatever times you'd like it to perform the backups.

Oh, about backup up to a separate server (or even the same server) with cron, if you decide to go that way anyway, check with your host's terms. Most disallow it.
