I dunno, I want to write another article for AdminAddict, and I've just ran out of the stuff I wrote over on vBulletin.org, so any ideas for possible future articles to write?

Of course, it'd be something about managing internet communities/forums, like every other article.

Good idea :D Do you mean a mod manual for us all to copy and paste and take away?

Decent ideas. The moderator manual is probably the more likely one to be honest.

^ I currently don't use advertising, so I couldn't help there at the moment.

Hm, I have several ideas, some that I previously wanted to write myself but never get the creativity or time to do so:

    • Moderator Series
      • Selecting/choosing moderators; how to ease the moderator into their new role (stressful for newbies)
      • Relieving moderators of their duties
      • Moderator guide
    • Unique methods of engaging the community
    • Keeping the community a friendly and fun place
    • Handling cliques or unwelcoming senior members/groups
    • Any SEO tips
    • Any promotional tips
    • Engaging guests and improving registration rates
    • Creating and maintaining a community - not just a forum.
    • Forum Rules - a guide to creating your own (tips, foundation rules, things to keep in mind)
    • Legal aspects of community management: Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
    • Dunbar's Number - Do we really want our membership to grow so large?
That's all I can think of for now... I'll be sure to post more when I think of 'em.

The bolded ones I think would make good articles in future, since they're the rarely considered aspects in most community management articles (let's face it, most admin/webmaster sites online seem to treat only activity and monetary gain as important when managing forums, when it's actually very different)

The ones in Italics I personally could not write about, but desperately need articles written on the subjects. The legal one is important really, so many conversations come up on vBulletin.com and .org about things like legality of license terms and modifications, and even more come up on the legality of forum management elements on the internet that it's nigh impossible to know where you stand on any of this. *cough* read PM modifications *cough*. Similarly, the promotion article is another good idea, and one I personally need some help with. So many articles about this aspect seem to be written in the nineties at best. So many fail to realise just how many levels things like 'comment on high Pr blogs' fail upon due to increased use of nofollow and nigh impossibility of established sites linking to any site less active than their own.

The underlined one... That's a good question, but the best person to write it would be someone who's got a forum highly listed on big boards or whatever. I can say however that highly active forums do sometimes generate quite the hatedom due to the things like overly strict moderation (think Gamefaqs).

A detailed list of video hosting sites - for people that use video blogging to promote their sites.

You could do a review of each site and list details such as - the maximum upload size, targeted audience, estimated monthly traffic, if they have adsense integration, do they allow links in the video description,,,, and what ever else you can think of.

    Hi Nick!

I'd be willing to write a lit review on the legal aspects of community management. I've been doing a boat load of reach on it lately in preparation for my company launch. Let me know if it is still of interest.

    Thanks,
    RR

It is always of interest! There isn't very much information out there about forums and legal concerns (condensed into a single topic) so I suspect that your article(s) would be extremely helpful and intriguing!

Definitely write that legal information for forum owners article, I've not seen any conclusive information about what laws are relevant in each different country, and it might stop all the arguments on forums.
