Google confirmed today, that duplicate content penalties are a myth!

Posted in their GWB, the search quality team addresses why people think there is such a penalty which you can now watch here

Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Duplicate content and multiple site issues

So since Joe Ward has left the vBSEO team it appears, and he was one of my favorite smooth talkers/media spinners at that company I'd love to hear their take on this without him there to smooth it over.

It appears that vBSEO really isn't anything special any more with "link consensus", well not until they put a spin on it again. In case anyone is wondering you can get a canonical URL mod for free at vBulletin.org

They've posted this several times over the last few years. It is just an ugly myth that refuses to die. Its all in the sales pitch.

However I doubt this will have any impact on vBSEO's sales. People can be convinced they need anything if you have the right pitch.

What for? All their selling points have been pretty much proven untrue by Google directly themselves.

Save your money and spend it on real SEO optimizations like back link building, some unique articles or something like that.

They get indexed. Just not instantly. I recommend downloading vBSEO's free sitemap generator from vBulletin.org and installing that. At least until vBulletin 4 which has a sitemap generator built in.

Use that generator to submit your contents to Google, Bing and Ask.com. You don't have to worry about Yahoo much because they are using Bing for their search engine now. This will speed up your content linking until your site is deemed "important" by these sites.

As for the complete vBSEO product, it isn't used on vBulletin.com and new threads show up in Google's index within about 15 minutes.

Articles are mentioned because they are more important content than forum posts. At least as far as the search engines are concerned.
