Am I right to expect spambot accounts should be deleted?

I recently took over a political forum, which seemed like a good idea at the time. I feel that the original owner misrepresented it though; all the traffic he claimed to have been getting seems to have been mostly from spambots. I've also discovered that more than half of the huge member base was really banned spam accounts. He'd delete (most of) the spam and ban the account, but not delete it. So, I'm feeling a wee bit cheated here. Am I right to expect a forum owner should get rid of these accounts or am I just too picky?

It's really a personal preference. I don't delete a single account - no matter what. This includes spam bots.

I don't think the claims the previous owner made are fair, to be honest. What he did was not right, but that's a whole other topic (seriously, a topic about false traffic stats, let's talk about it :p).

Like Nick, I don't delete anything, ever. However, you are right; he should have gotten rid of them or at least not counted them when giving you the forum.

Why, are you going to go trash it? (Maybe I should let you, maybe it would stir people up!)

Nah, just wondering if it's the same site. If so, most if not everyone on the site would probably have to go. The site was linked to a VERY LARGE gun forum. And just about every one signed up and started posting on that site. It got so bad on the gun forum, that the mods started deleting the links to that site and threatening to ban their own members.

It's been awhile but this maybe it: Obama Forum

But now that I think about it, there may have been two different sites.

No, thankfully that isn't one of mine. I haven't read all the threads, but I haven't seen a disproportionate amount of gun-related threads yet. How long ago was this little war?

Oh no, you wouldnt see much if you're looking for gun topics.

A lot of your gun owners are conservitives. So we tried engaging the site on Obama's polices and statements which at that time guns wasn't a major issue. An example was how Obama labled John McCain a bailout Bush and Obama turned around and passed more bailouts than Bush and the last 5 presidents combined. We also joked about the Obama checks a lot...I never got one but then again, I work. And just so you don't think I'm completely evil, I would have done the same thing for President Bush had I thought about it
