Alien cookies and Virgins?

Now that I have your attention...

The name/password cookie from you seems to be highly inconsistent on the Virginconnect Web Appliance. It does not seem to work consistently. Any ideas??

Would any one be interested in a step by step guide to getting your cookies to work again, I have noticed that most of the people come here show up as 'Guests'. I am not sure if this is because they are not registered or because they are having problem with cookies. If you are registered but still show up as a guest when you enter the site, please post a reply here and I will write up the guide. If you are not registered please register now.

You read my mind...I am registered, but never come up as me, I am always guest. I don't think it is my cookies, cuz it remembers me and my password everytime, in fact, on the front page when it says who's online at the bottom, it says something like boredadmin and 11 other registered users.

Help!! I wanna be seen, not just heard.

Hiya. .

In the new version there will be a more direct login/logout procedure which will help things. It's extremely accurate.

The way it works (if it's reading your cookie properly), you won't see yourself in the popup window (online.cgi), but you will be recognized when you go to post (remembering your name/pass) and it should also remember your name on the front page.

boredadmin - there are 0 members, and 10 guests on the boards.

...is an example... even if you are a member, you will not show in that area, it just reads you in the beginning... You cannot see yourself in the members or guests right there (but others should see you on the system just fine.)

Is this what's going on, or am I too groggy from my nap? .

Hey, what about my Virgin and Alien cookies?

I've also noticed that the site has stopped counting my posts and topics. Does that have to do with my cookie being out of sync on my PC vs. my Virgin (I changed the password from the virgin to a simpler to type one because I couldn't get the cookie to work there, now I can't get it updated on my PC that I also use (like now). It is a b|tch to keep three systems in sync.

I think I'd like a cookie manual....

That's exactly what it's doing...so it's normal? When I go into Who's online, there always seem to be alot of guest and only one or two registered users, although I have just seem someone post a message, they don't show up as online.

Oh, well...no big deal, just kinda confusing.

 

Notice to all having Cookie trouble!
Here is a 10 step guide to resetting your cookies and getting you to show up properly again.

1. Click 'Preferences' at the top of the page.
2. Click on 'Click here to delete all cookies set by this forum!'
3. Click 'OK' to the 'Are you sure you want to delete the cookies' popup.
4. Then click on 'Click here to return to the forums.'
5. Click on the 'Profile' link at the top of the screen.
6. Log on using your AlienSoup UserName and password (your password might still come up anyway, if so it will just be from your browsers cache)
7. Click the 'Submit Modifications' button at the bottom of your profile.
8. Click Return to: Forums Summary Page
9. Click 'Preferences' at the top of the page and make sure 'Store Username & Password in browser memory for 1 year..' is set to yes, and 'Invisible mode' is set to 'Visible' (if you want to be seen in the whos online page that is).
10. Click on the 'Submit Preferences' button and it will take you back to the main forums page.
If you go to the bottom it should say [YourUserName] - there are x other members and x guests on the boards.

Our target is to get it showing all members & no guests.

 

That was the key to getting this to work on my PC:

Preferences to kill the old one

Profile to set SOME settings

Then Preferences again- that combo got my PC cookies working- Now I need to try this out on the ol' Virgin box...

(THAT sounds bad, doesn't it .)
