Just upload the favicon.ico file and overwrite the existing default vBulletin one.

Yup - Most all browsers now read the favicon.ico file if it's uploaded to your root directory.

Favicons need to be 16px by 16px (or atleast last time i checked they did).

If you have an already acquired image but it's in the .gif and/or .png extension simply rename the extension to .ico The title of the favicon needs to be named favicon.

Simply upload the favicon file to your root (specified above).

Most of the time you have to restart your browser and sometimes even your entire computer. Some browsers are really odd about updating the cached favicon.

But to be sure it's uploaded properly, does it show when you visit yoursite.com/favicon.ico?

I guess you didn't read, the size HAS to be 16x16 and you didn't overwrite the file or named it correctly.

There have been times I thought I overwrote a file, but when I loaded it, it was the older version. Sometimes it was because I was uploading to the wrong directory. Sometimes it was because I was really uploading the older version and didn't realize it. Why don't you check the favicon file on your hard drive to make sure it's the one you want, then try the upload again?
