They at IB have released .4. I wonder what new bugs are in store for us...

Oh I forgot, no one here besides me uses that branch...

If I recall correctly, they were also going to release the VB Skin Generator. Might be worth a look...

It's almost to a version that I would feel comfortable upgrading my own site :)
now if they can get impex to import from 4.0 to 4.0, I'll be set

You want to use Impex instead of using the upgrade script?

Can't the upgrade script handle upgrades anymore?

I had no problems upgrading from 1 to 4

The skin generator kinda just looks like basic re-coloring. So it seems to make it easy to get a customized skin started.

Well, I had a complete nightmare of a time upgrading last night...

Ran the upgrade script...and it crashed on step 7. Again. As it always likes to do. So a revert of the db, remove custom themes, manually revert templates, and this time it finishes. Great, try to add custom templates, no go. Errors up the whazooo. Finally get that sorted (corrupted php file - admintools_templates) took about a hour, went to change some stylevars - nada. Everything said "array" after I edited it. Spent about 2 hours going through everything, couldn't find a single file outta place. Found out it was a bug this morning. I love vBugsetin. Then my members bring up "all profiles do strange stuff" Guess what, more bugs. Applied both fixes from the tracker, and the nightmare has died down.

Then I upgraded another site that runs on wordpress to 3.0, guess what? done in about 2 minutes, clicked about 5 buttons...

I would like to personally thank everyone for continuing to beta test the VB 4.X series for me. Please let me know when its stable enough to install on a live site without a lot of editing, or manual bug fixes.

Until then, I think I'll stay with the 3.X series.

My upgrade from 3.7.4 to 3.8.5 wasnt exactly a ball of wax. I found out over the course of a year the db was set in multiple languages and nothing played well together and to always reinstall the default theme and set that as the default. Along with cleaning up and disabling the plugins.

So when I upgraded to the 4 series I spent like 2 days on prep/cleaning time and upgraded the board and got things working in about 2 hours once I started.

Don't know where I saw it, but .4 is a good alpha, maybe it even classifies as a beta...

I'm still sitting in the 3.8x series until I am 'bowled over' with the great news of how vB 4.0 is working for others. Until then, I'm staying with Kevin on the sidelines keeping an eye on things :)

I've been on the fence about upgrading because I really wanted to take advantage of some significant changes and perform some major integrations into vB.

Given how poorly 4.0.4 has been received, I'm unfortunately left in a quandary. If I'm stuck with 3.8.5, I'm not sure I'll be moving anything for a long time. If I move away from vB entirely the that is the end of that.

What bothers me is that there are so many reported errors. I can't remember the last time I've had to deal with a problem with 3.8.x and perhaps I should stay that way, URLs and SEO optimizations be damned.

There are some features in VB 4 that I would really like to add to my community - like the CMS and blog. And I would like to add comet chat, but I'am waiting on comet chat until vb 4 gets installed.

Its like my entire community has been put on hold because vb 4 has so many reported errors. I really wish that the product was finished, and ready to go. That way I can move forward with my plans.
