I think the main benefit of having a friend is that you can limit profile privacy. Certain elements can be shown [I]only[/I] to friends.
It also is just a way of networking with people more. Some people may feel closer to somebody who is a "friend" than somebody who isn't.

And you are right about the contacts. In fact, go to Quick Links on the navbar and click "Open Contacts Popup". You can see a list of your contacts, sorted by on- or off-line, and send them a PM.

Also, I think you can limit viewing of certain parts of your profile based on friendship status. UserCP -> Profile Privacy. :)

We haven't set up a forum for contributors as we only have what, three of them? You'd really be talking to yourself most of the time.
But we are thinking of some sort of idea so that subscribers get some sort of private section. I'll keep you updated. ;)

Did your post count really drop? I have no clue why...
When viewing a list of all posts ever made by you, the number matches your post count. :confused:
