Seriously, I think this one just takes the cake. Remember that old Digital Ocean topic about a blog being shut down because of content the host didn't agree with?

Well this story kind of tops it. Long story short, someone gets found to be having affairs with those in the gaming industry as a way to get ahead in their job/promote their work without criticism. People find out about it and post criticism...

Then the internet kind of explodes. No seriously. About a dozen videos (by popular authors) randomly disappear because of 'copyright claims' (false ones at that, with the only 'issue' being the use of a game pictured used by the subject in part of an editorial). Then a whole laundry list of sites block all conversation about the topic and ban tons of people and delete tons of topics simply for mentioning it.

Sites that mention the topic in an article seemingly have their hosts threaten to shut off their service (one site which had an article mentions their host asked them to delete the article).

And then... Reddit and 4chan censor topics about it.

Yeah, the same sites home to anonymous, b/, outright illegal content and personal threats/attacks decide to censor just this one particular topic, deleting a ton of topics and banning people for days over something that would normally be completely ignored.

Does anyone else feel that this is pretty much a horribly example of internet censorship and legal stupidity? That this goes beyond 'caution' and into 'half the internet is run by people seemingly ready to censor and ban their communities for disagreement'?

Cause oh boy, the outrage has been going for hours now. Apparently the virtual equivalent of world war 3 broke out of these sites over this sort of stuff.

Most political forums are like this. The unpopular opinions are regarded as trolling.

Mine was created to combat such stupidity IMO.
