I wouldn't expect anything less from someone who's majority of posts on here are negative and whining about something. Your content speaks volumes. You and a few others provide little to this community and are almost always the ones bitching. I know I have been one to do the same but my posting history doesn't consist of the majority of that type of shit. At least contribute something positive instead of just showing up in threads like its your time of month every single time you post. I hope when I am 37 I'm not trolling admin forums letting the majority of my posts end up like yours.
Three original mentioned sites are still on 5.0.5 Trying to decide if its through the stability of the software being good, or they cant handle more pain through the latest releases
Far from 2 months old. This thread was going the wrong way, which has a knock on effect on future posts. At the end of the day, stay on topic
Is there a contradiction here? Is not your post insulting and derogatory regarding the looks of those sites? Not being critical, just asking for clarity.
I think Dillon needs to find the moderators seat still. He seems to be sort of in between being a normal user and a moderator. Scott
This statement isn't true, the list of bugs is being reduced with each released, and some of them are so minor, they are not really bugs, changing the wording, or moving a button is not really a "bug". That is a matter of opinion, IMO there are not any great looking forums out there at all using XF or VB5, you have to go back to VB3 or some of the bettter phpBB boards to find a great looking design. If you want great these days you have to pay a lot of money, so all "free" designs are basically a play on the default.
There is a fine line between opinion-based and factual statements. Mine was a mixture. You can clearly see that everyone of those sites is simply the default design with a few colour changes/modifications. The default design itself is ugly (but that's my opinion, before anybody complains and I accept it's subjective). I was stating simply stay on topic. Don't change the topic away from those 3 sites to simply bash Mark.B etc. because it just detracts away from the conversation. If stating those 3 sites aren't good looking is an awful comment to make, why have this thread? We should all just simply state how nice it looks, despite our opinion(s)? I agree it is a matter of opinion but to state good progress is being made with regards to bugs/JIRA. that is not the case and there is still a very long way to go. Do all free designs play on the default, or again is this your opinion? I'm curious.
I would say it's mostly true, if you look back to the original designs for VB3,4 there are some decent free styles around, but as the upgrades were not compatible with those themes, a lot of designers gave up doing kick ass themes for free, now if you want exclusively different, you are talking a min $200. We've discussed this before, and most Admins agree that you can recognise most platforms simply by how they look.
The three sites in the OP do look good but still all have the same issue that turned me off (and others) to VB5. Those small forum icons. They look absolutely terrible. They bring down any forum style and there's no way to change them to the old forum status icons we all enjoyed (and some of us styled!). I'm hoping by VB6 that they do away with that horrible decision. The three sites in the OP have done good with what they we're given in VB5 to work with though.
