I haven't paid a SEO expert for my site. I am trying to learn all the ropes myself so I could save myself from that cost. I know they are pretty pricey these days with the demand of online marketing companies these days. But as of the moment, I'd rather be a SEO expert myself so I could also know all the details of this work and use it for my advantage as a site owner.

Also you could sell your SEO skills and fleece all the business owners who don't want to learn about it themselves.

Well said. I've always done my own SEO. That way I know what to change when I want to change it. I think paying for SEO is a ripoff because SEO is easier than people make it seem.

    What are your keywords Peace?

You sound like a person with a lot of integrity. Give someone a fish and you've fed them for one meal, teach them to fish and you've fed them for life (that's pre-Fukushima disaster of course).

i have been doing seo for many years now let me show you few examples and meanings.

1: blackhat seo = spam links
2: whitehat seo = links & an core text are posted other sites , comments in post don't look spammy more friendly genuine post

3: page-rank are given only if your site content is genuine + backlinks coming to your site , more backlinks more pagerank , more pagerank more visitors , more hits u get.

page rank is also given to your website by amount of hits you get to your website daily , if you get large amount of hits i mean legit visitors visiting your site you will get brown cookies for them.

everybody outthere that say they guarantee you pagerank , do not listen its total rubbish nobody cant guarantee this is the bottom line.

when doing white-hat-seo your website will remain in the dark but as you wait it out for months/years you will se results , whitehat is all about being patients with links coming from 3rd party site ,not like blackhat spaming and pinging instantly.

Amazing how these threads attract people selling "SEO services".

It's obviously making a lot of people a lot of money else they wouldn't endlessly appear in threads like this.

Don't be fooled - save your money - what little "SEO" you need can be done yourself without paying "experts" a single penny.

Forum SEO is a challenge when comparing to SEO on a blog or static website. The reason is because a forum is user content based while a blog's or static's content is mainly by YOU. All of your forum members are not keeping SEO tricks in mind when creating content on your forum therefore you cannot control it. You could attempt to train your members to be more SEO friendly but that would likely scare them away from posting altogether especially if they have no clue what SEO is.

My three main tactics with forum SEO are...

    1. Content - Unique and fresh content that isn't the same old same old content found on other rival communities. Now like I said, a forum is user based but that mean you have to work harder by posting the majority on the new articles, topics and so on, on your forum. And you should - you're the leader after all and you want your members to follow the leader.

    2. Relevant Linking - When trying to get links on other websites, try on websites that are directly related or partially related to your specific niche. Don't go signature link on a fish tank forum if your forum is about Ford Mustangs because its not that relevant to the eyes of Google and other search engines. It also helps if your relevant back links are relevant to the content in which how they are posted. If someone is blogging about Mustangs and mentioned a discussion (and links it) on your forum about Mustangs, that is going to look very nice for Google.

    3. Online Members - Google and other search engines will spy on your forum to see how long your members are hanging out on it. The longer people surf your forum, the better it will become in search engine optimization. Keep people on your forum - study your members - see what they like and work on that.

^Those 3 things above will help you a lot and are easy to do, no reason to waste money of getting them done :)

Other tactics that help are social media optimization, some article writing as long as it relates to the niche and a fast hosting service. Downtime can harm your rank - so stay away from slow free hosts!
