I recieved an e-mail as a attendee to ForumCon... One big announcement was dropped:

"Very excited to announce that for those that are interested in or able to arrive a little early, vBulletin will be unveiling their newest version in a special pre-briefing session kicking off at 8:15am the morning of ForumCon. Its the product's "world premiere" -- and you'll be one of the first ever to get an inside look at its features and functionality. "

To read the schedule for ForumCon - Here it is.

I'm looking forward to seeing vBulletin 5 also, especially since being said it will be a new forum product and not an extension of vBulletin 4. Think we can expect to see a new theme with matching Admin CP for starters, can't wait!

You'll have to fill us in Carlos with extra info if your going.

After what happened with vb4 I have my doubts that this is just going to be another one of those buy now and save deals.

They'll hype it up and make look like the next best thing. Tell everyone they should reserve a copy now at a lower introductory price with a promise you'll get it the best in a few weeks.

You know the rest of the story of what happens after that.

I can understand you having doubts, we'll just have to wait see what transpires at ForumCom.

Completely different team running vB now at operational level, I highly doubt they will make the same mistakes as 2009 having spent the best part of two years trying to put them right.

How much XenForo influence do you think this version will have?

Doubt it will have very much to be honest , I doubt it will be influenced by anything specific, I think it will just go for a "web 2.0" look, whatever that is. But I don't know. They seem to have kept it very close to their chest.

So what do you think then? How much influence do you think this version will have?

Doubt we will get an answer.

I think some people would dearly love to be able to turn the tables on vB and claim they have copied XenForo. Can't see them being so stupid to be honest.

Well if I'm right, the "Alerts" idea thing was taken from "Facebook" originally, heading into XenForo and later IPB. So yeah, I'd expect it to be there (maybe) in vB5. But who knows? I think we might see a lot more jQuery used in vB5. But more than anything right now, I'm thinking more along the lines of what it will look like, first impressions? Will it come with a new stock theme, plus matching Admin CP style that's been redesigned for navigation? They've thrown the rest out carried over from vB3?

Just want to see what it looks like first, will I be impressed thinking - WOW, that looks cool, or not? If they use the same theme vB4 is using now, plus those old Admin CP styles still carried across. Unfortunately, I won't be looking any further at it.

Hopefully they will let the customers make their own design choices with less css files to edit & not reliant on the stylevars system either. Don't make customers have to edit a bunch of css files and stylevars to get rid of pillows and shadows. Leave all the extra fancy styling to third party designers.

The "complete" rewrite? Any news on that? Last I heard, it wasn't going to make VB5 and would only come in stages. If they come out with a complete rewrite with newer technology, I think they would turn heads. That is, of coarse, if they don't get rid of any current features like they did in VB4.0.

Hopefully they enhance the social groups to be a more viable option similar or better than JomSocial and the likes offer. Wayne had some pretty awesome ideas for the social groups a few years back.

Notifications! This seems to be a miss with all the big boys. It would be a miracle if they included all the missing notifications into the system.

It's funny how silent the development progress has been. Sound familiar? The almighty trade secret: "Silence"...
Quite annoying when we were promised that road map a long time ago. I'm sure they could've gained more attention and customers if they were more open about development progress. Seems like IPB is the only one willing to be upfront and open to customers.

From what I saw at the event, nothing. It looks like busier IPB forum. Some say that it borrows from myspace.

Here's my thread on ForumCon: http://admin-talk.com/threads/6969/

I'm sorry, Bob for advertising a competing forum, it's not really meant for that. I'm just too tired, my head hurts, my feet hurts, my arm hurts, I think I exerted a lot of energy at ForumCon.

Where are the screen shots I keep hearing about? If nobody got pictures, can someone describe them?
