    not telling anyone ;)
    promoting on a forum that is similar to mine that has just announced its closing. got me 100 members and 1000 posts in the first month, and loads after that.

    since it closed, facebook has been good to me and gave me loads of members, and also just generally adding content and letting search engine bots index the forum
