quality of posts

theres a member of my forum who is a very active member, and can contribute some good posts, but my problem is threads he starts, they often have the question or something in the title of the thread, and just one word or a smiley in the thread. his posts do actually get sensible replies, and promote discussion, but its annoying to see threads that are just one word long.

what do i do to get him to post longer threads

 

Edit the thread titles so they mean something, and they might get the hint?

I view things like non-descriptive thread titles as a very minor form of trolling (look at me!). That is why the thread preview is so important to us.

 

the thread titles are pretty much the whole post, the thread is like this

title: how do i add a signature to my posts?
first post in thread:

title: have you ever seen...
first post in thread: [name of tv show]

 

The first one looks fine to me. People can see exactly what the thread is about and choose to read or not.

If it bothered me I'd fill in the 2nd ones title with the tv show name, then post up "I added the name of the show to the title to save other peoples time as a courtesy ".

 

Personally, I think that thread starters don't need to worry about length. The follow-up posts are what matter the most. You probably don't want to have a thread with twenty members making responses consisting of only smilies.

 

Yes, i don't see why thread would need to be long if they are getting done what they need like a question or something like that why would you what them to drag out into something long? That's what i think anyway..

or

"I am interested in hearing why this is interesting to you, please share more"

If they don't and it appears that they are just starting threads to be the thread starter, especicially if they live in the Offtopic area, I would probably clip their wings.

 

On our dance forum we have a lot of member like that. They don't even have links in their signatures. Depending on the situation I think you just have to let people have their fun sometimes.

 

I'd be happy to have posters who start threads and get lots of replies. If it doesn't bother the respondants I wouldn't let it bother me. An active thread is an active thread afterall.
