    Which would you rather use?

    Name-Forum.com

    OR

    NameForum.net

The "name" can be changed to anything else. Just using it as an example.

Without the hyphen, if that is possible.

My preference at least, especially when telling the name to someone in person and not in an email/post.

I've thought about this so much before. I've had great names that are taken as far as the .com (isn't that almost always the case?) and I've decided to go with a new name where I could do a non-hyphenated .com name instead of the .net

It's really tough when you go with a .net because everyone assumes that your site is a .com and could potentially visit another site instead of yours.

I agree with the above post, have you thought about any other name combinations? Although that's not to say .net is useless; there are plenty of very successful .net's!

agreed with ArnyVee to get the .com and non hyphenated.

    it could even be TheNameForums.com

This is exactly why I went with the name-forums.com rather then a .org, .net or anything else.

I don't normally care for domains with #'s or -'s in them but I went with the hyphen for my newest forum. I know most my traffic with be from search engines (by the time all is said & done) and they don't care if it has a hyphen or not. :)

I did consider adding another word like TheForumName.com but I wanted to try and keep it as short as possible, so I passed those up.

both would get you listed, but if you want to compare them internally, then it will be decided by traffic and backlinks.
