Ok so i've thought of a top name for my forum, but the .co.uk and .com and .net are taken what would you recommend is the next best one? I really dont want to change the name because it fits perfectly for my forum.

I'd work at finding a new domain name. Having a good TLD helps incredibly not only wit SEO, but with word of mouth. People naturally assume .com with most websites, if you're in the UK then .co.uk is okay, but when people have to dig further than that they can get confused, go to the wrong place or just altogether forget. You want your name to be easy to tell someone and they remember.

I wish I knew this before getting my first domain.

and keep in mind that many ppl are so used to typing www before and .com after a domain, so maybe you want to try to add a small word before your domain name.

For example if you wanted offroadcars.com and that was taken, maybe theoffroadcars.com or offroadcarsforum.com, etc.

A cool site for putting words together and checking availability is Domain Name Search & Suggestions - NameStation (Formerly MakeWords)
