    New Theme Update

    Howdy all,

Just wanted to throw this out there and see what you guys think. Mordy upgraded the software to RC3, so I decided to change the theme too. Also, partly because some of the text was difficult to read on the older theme.

Anyway, enough of me blabbing about it. Please go ahead and check it out.

    Here's my unprofessional thoughts:

I almost didn't see your tagline "The Ultimate place to talk fishing" I actually had to select it to read what it said.

Also the banner seems to have 2 layers. The gradient starts, then starts again. IMO that should be smoother.

I do like the image in the banner and your forum and post icons. The title font doesn't do it for me, but that's just me, and I'm not really in your target audience.

    I hope this helps...

First off, yes, your reply does help.:) And now my questions and comments to you:

Regarding the tagline, are you saying the color of the text should be changed to a more appropriate color?

The banner is currently set as transparent. The theme is a free SMF theme so it was not specifically designed for our site. At this point, I'm not sure what I'm going to try to do to make it look better.

I'm glad you like them. The original SMF ones would not "cut" it for me, so I knew I had to change them.;)

Theme font: Are you just not a fan of "bubble" letters? I might have to play around with the font a little. Keep in mind, this was also my first logo.:spin:

    Your comment is very appreciated!

    Re: New Theme Update

At first glance it's a good go. I agree with the gradient. On the home page think about spacing things out a little more. You have things bunched together and then these big white spaces. Example would be the navigational tabs. A lotta white space there, then right under a lot going on. Same for the footer area. Advice would be to either combine the search with the tabs or put the search in the sidebar which should bring everything up closer, but not to close. You might even put the who's online on the other side to even the sidebars out more.

Otherwise it looks good. It's a nice smooth theme. Definately better.

    Re: New Theme Update

What "white space" are you reffering to? Is it the space between the logo and the navigation tabs?

I have no control over navigation tabs. They are built into the theme and there are more tabs that show up when you log in.

Side Bars- Guests are not able to see much, including the pictures that are displayed down the left side of the home page.

Yes that was what I was speaking of. If the theme is based on tables you should be able to combine the search and navtabs. If it's tableless then it's in the css settings. The other white space is because the sidebars are off center, one has more than the other which creates white space or 'blank' space on the opposite site.

Upper right hand corner shows a little arrow. Click on it! It should take care of your white space.

Not sure what sidebars you are referring too. Screenshot?

Ok, I see what you're referring to.

That space is to be taken up by the "Fresh Pictures" and "Gallery Images". We just modified that to make pictures viewable to guests. (not many pictures in our database yet) The rest of the white space will be filled with other things before the website is officially launched.:)

Yes, I'd change the color and font. I almost didn't notice it at all, and when I did I actually had to highlite it to read it.

The font of the title in the banner, I'm fine with the theme's font. It's not bad, just doesn't do it for me. I wouldn't be able to tell you how to improve it.

I'll see if I can have that font changed.

The theme will remain the way it is, since I myself do not know what font to change it to.

Thank you, but all the credit goes to the theme creater Crip.

If you're referring to the template theme, then the download link can be found here: http://custom.simplemachines.org/the...php?lemma=2066
