I was surprised to see it *finally* released. Why do you seem hesitant to update to the latest version? I plan to keep at least two of my forums permanently on 3.8.x, so I see no reason not to upgrade.

I was just looking at that. I'm exercising caution, going to upgrade the testserver first. I like staying current with the latest stable version, however "stable" is the key word. I'm not in the mood to be dealing with unanswered support questions if these bug fixes introduce other bugs I can't live with.

I really don't want to start fixing any new bugs either. Guess I could try a local test...
Also, how do I know that the code is clean/stable. I mean, IB is trying to "patch" jetsoft code and they can't even get their own code (vb4) straight. I am running on a live site 4.0.2 PL1 and I can't begin to describe the amount of bugs that are constantly being brought up...

We are just starting to discuss it. I don't really see a need to upgrade based on the list of things fixed.

If there are any issues with it I'm sure someone will start a thread on vb.com, so we will wait at least a short time anyway.

vb 3.8.3 was the last release that Kier did. After that IB started introducing new bugs.
Next month I'll see if many bugs will be found by vb 3.8.5 users. If not, then I might upgrade.

Honestly, some of the rubbish you read about IB & who coded what etc etc is unbelievable.

I upgraded to 3.8.5 tonight, took about 4 mins (mostly to update the mark forum read links).

We are on 3.8.4 PL1, do you recall when the issue you mentioned was introduced, or if the version we are using might have it?

    Issue ?

One of the fixes in 3.8.5 was to add the security token to the Mark Forum Read links.

Since these are in the Navbar, which is one of the templates most people have customised, you probably need to edit them to include the token. They are also in the Forumhome template.

What's the worst thing if I don't upgrade?

What do you mean? You shouldn't have to even touch your config file if you're just going from 3.8.4 to 3.8.5. :shifty:

As long as you upgraded to 3.8.4 PL2 then there are no [known] security holes.

All you will lose is the 27 bug fixes.

(BTW, Im not counting the markread update as a security hole, its a hypothetical issue and the worse it can do is mark your threads as read - wow, big deal ...)

Much thanks Paul. I believe we are using 3.8.3 PL 1. I cannot even get on vb.com to check the differences between PL 1 & PL 2, I keep getting various errors. I will follow up later.

After upgrading to 4.0, i wouldn't upgrade if i had 3.8.4, no need to update what was a good release, 4.0 is so buggy, even on the latest security patch they've released. Support is kinda crap for me at the moment aswell, its been 2 days.
