You know what will be more interesting? To know what their results are for this year, after everyone has apparently got fed up with vBulletin 4 and went to competitors. But hey, it's not unexpected they did well what with the presale and what not.

1.9M / $130 is about 15K extra copies of vb.

I'm much more interested in the next quarter :D

A fool and his money are quickly parted. I feel sorry for everyone that invested in 4.0 beta/gold fiasco. The last update fixed 250 bugs in 4.0. 250 bugs in a gold product? Please.

We upgraded 1 of our licenses primarily to ensure access to v3.8 updates, an insurance policy. In addition I was willing to take a chance the v4 might actually be of use.

I don't regret the purchase, but unless some miracle occurs will not be using v4 nor any other future vb products.

I agree, later in the year will show better more how things have gone.

I don't have as much ill-will considering I was able to turn a profit on my vBulletin 4.0 license, but this pretty much confirms what we all knew. 2010 Q1 should be interesting as well as Q4 2010. I think we all know what we'll see, it just depends upon if something else in the company makes up for it.

glad someone is making some money, because I see a whole lot of complaints at vb.com about 4.0 and it's sub-releases

Hmmm 10 million a qtr? Maybe I'm in the wrong business! *evil grin*

Funny thing is we have a kick ass solution for a front end that was designed with the possibility of being used in such an app. I'm confident our design as the default skin would shift way more than any of the other platforms out there.

Maybe we should start getting a team together...

Well yes it takes a couple of year's for financial impact to set in when its related to bad customer vibes...the decline is slow but steady....it'll all depend on how much damage control Inet is able to put in...

Chew on this...one of the oldest and most respected design houses for vB (ExtremePixels) was sold by it's owner this weekend...primarily due to not wanting to fight the 4.0 battle any longer. vB will be worth very little one day if all the mod/skin makers desert it eventually.

I fully expect IB will have an excellent 2010, financially. It might not be as much fun for the vb support staff. But the marketing on vb 4 will most probably be successful, from the IB perspective. Just because the posters in 'passionate' don't like vb 4 does not mean that it won't make lots of money out in the big world. :)

I would guess they are having far more development costs than anticipated due to the loss of key personnel and the way they handled the release. But since that is all capitalized, not expensed, and the amortization is long, that probably won't affect the financials too badly.

Now that is a shock. Bob has been involved with vbulletin skinning from the beginning. Let's see, John is focusing on IPB, Bob is now out, Forum Monkeys has put skin development on hold and a few other designers have done the same. Tis not looking good.

Just a thought here, but with the complaints posted on vBulletin about creating new themes and the problems they've been having. And because things will continue changing during the rewrite. Do you not think this might be more of a reason why many big theme sites are putting things on hold for now. As they feel they may create a new theme, then IB change things that breaks that theme further on during the rewrite at any point?

If I was a theme designer selling themes. I think right now I would seriously consider it might be best waiting for the full rewrite and a few design issues to be ironed out and completed.

Plus it seems with each vB4 release they keep changing the default theme in some way or other to either improve it, or fix display issues. And theme designers must be using certain CSS entries in that default theme for creating new ones off. But if IB are constantly playing around with the CSS styling all the time. That's just makes things impossible really for a designer to keep pace.

I see nothing on the Extreme Pixels website regarding it's sale.

I knew that the software was not up for the job
I browsed the forum, it had a lot of bugs
I saw the bug tracker, more bugs there
I read the Licensed Customers forum, a lot of complains ...

    Yet, I bought it, I bought 4.0

I just wanted to "try" by myself. I wanted to download the code, browse the source code, try it on my site, and experience first hand everything. So.. I paid the (160?) price for the new suite.

I am not using it. It irritates me. The css layout is silly, they introduced everything in css including redoing tables where they actually made sense. Every time I browse a fresh 4.x instalation I find bugs.. after browsing my forum maybe .. 5 minutes ? Yes, maybe I am too picky and I expected a perfect product. Bugs everywhere, options not working, options missing, translations not well done ...

I just don't want to spend time debugging the damn product. I have enough problems with the rest of the site. I just want my forum to .. um .. work?

So, final message. I bough it. I know some people that did, too. Either they upgraded and are regretting it, or the file is getting dust in some folder, that is, if it hasn't made it to the recycle bin.

How are they going to get revenue now ? Maybe they'll announce "You know what, vb4 was a bad idea, we are doing vb5 now and selling them January 2011, at a discounted price of 200 only if you buy NOW, NOW, NOW"

I won't fall for that again

I'm happy to say I contributed $0 toward their 4th quarter profits and I have no plan to add to their 2010 profits at this point.
