Have you ever (or do you currently) maintain(ed) a blog as another part of your website? Two of my three forums have blogs with them, but I find it difficult to keep them updated.
One of the blogs is often updated by one of my moderators and helpers who writes some great blog entries/articles every once in a while. Without her, the blog would be completely dead.
The other blog, on the other hand, hasn't been announced publicly, but it exists (and some people know it does), but I'm the only one working on it and my last entry was on December 5th.

Blogging is not anywhere near as easy as it first appears. It's hard to keep up with the latest news and trends to be able to blog about them in a timely manner to get the attention and traffic that is desired.

So do you have a blog with your forums? If so, how do you find the time to maintain them and keep them updated? What is the blog used for (site announcements, industry news, highlighting discussions from the forum, ...)?

i think you'd have to define what the purpose of your blogs are for. I have one forum with vb blog on it used mainly to allow forum members to blog. It doesn't get much use by other members, but i use it myself to update members on what i'm currently doing site/forum related wise and then in blog entry link to specific part of my site for more details etc. Basically a cms/news like purpose but on a more personal level - sort of like a twitter like blog for forums hehe.

I use a blog, but it's for friends and family to stay in touch (outside of facebook) and I try to keep it updated at least once a week. Though lately it's been once every two weeks.

Nearly all forum-based sites that I've seen with blogs attached are seldom used.

Does anyone have a blog where it's used a lot and what is your secret? ;)

When I had a blog, I found it very easy. I wrote a few blog posts one day and had it scheduled to appear so it was as if I wrote one per day. I don't understand how it is hard? Maybe I am special:rofl:
