    For their websites...

They literally just pay FOUR DOLLARS a 200 word article. That's nothing, and it's not exactly shouting 'quality content', is it?

A chance for me to write real articles on cars. Scam? - Motor Trend The Drive-In Forum

Maybe that's why vBulletin 4 has no documentation, because no staff are going to write for those prices...

Edit: This is a two hundred word article sample I wrote in four minutes:

$4 for 200 is the upper end.

I've looked into doing this type of deal for extra cash. Many site that are looking for articles want you to research and answer questions that appear on the site for the princely sum of 60 cents per 100 words. Articles should be 3-4 paragraphs in length. Most of the ads also said will pay after 10 articles are submitted and approved. Everyone of these had a requirement, usually in bold, underlined and italicized, that the author is a native English using writer.

I guess if I was able to knock out 10 in a half hour it would then be worth doing. But at 3 min per article I think quality would suffer.

Interesting that was posted on an IB competitor site. Source Interlink Media owns many forums as well.

4$ for 200 is to much IMHO :D
I can get a 500 word article for 4 bucks
I do this all the time, it's a great time saver for me and the articles are always spot on.
This really isn't anything shocking IMO, I'm sure many niche forum owners do it, especially if they would have several forums of the same niche like iNet does. (cars)

Do you have a job? Seriously, do you have a job where you go everyday and preform a task?

If your supervisor tells you to write an article, your going to write the article. Its not a matter of "writing for those prices" - because your already on the payroll.

It looks to me like your trying to find something to complain about.

Not in 200 words though. Price is near irrelevant, but 200 words isn't much to say.

    Why 200 words?

The idea is to play to peoples short attention span. Most people will read 2-3 short paragraphs but when you get much more than that attention spans wane.

I can say a lot in 200 words. And it doesn't require me to sit and ramble on and on for a long period time. In fact, quite often I can say a lot within the 160 character limit of my text messages, or the 140 character limit on Twitter.

If you go straight to the point, with no unnecessary banter, you can provide high quality content within a 200 word article.

$4 is a lot for 200 words, and it'll take me less than a few minutes to do it. Associated Content pays better, for me at least. I have an editor friend of mine who makes a few hundred per month just because his articles get read.

Glad this thread came up. I have been recently toying with the idea of paying for news content for my site but had NO freaking idea where abouts to start looking and pricing.

Any recommendations on where to get started? I don't want fodder or spam, but a constant supply of related news content.

^I think there are sites you can buy articles from and what not, or you can pay a writer directly.

I don't think spun-looking blog stuffing articles are what you want for documentation or actual final content, however. People don't like reading vapid "Hi I am paid by the word can you not tell?" nonsense.

Oh, a quick word for anyone who thinks I'm merely complaining here... I prefer the old days of writing, like, 1000 + word essays and such like. God, there need to be more websites made for people who can read quicker than usual and with an attention span longer than three minutes.

I feel like I have totally hijacked this thread. @Cheat - Im kind of with you but I guess like the rest of the web, I lost my attention span in 2002.

    Where was I again?

    Oh yea...

@Brandon - You paid $4 for that?!? And posted it as you?!? Is there a good chance that I will find that article in another 700 web sites? I can't imagine only being paid $4 for writing that!

My category is pretty niche so I am not sure where to turn for decent content. Also assume Ill need to be regularly tweaking. Also not sure to post under a news account or mine.

Basically I know NOTHING. so there.

    I wouldn't write it for 4$, that's for sure.
No copies according to Copyscape Plagiarism Checker - Duplicate Content Detection Software
I scan over the articles and make the sure the wording is correct, I've actually posted several articles that I've purchased, and there are tons of bloggers that don't write their own post ;)
I usually will post the purchased articles on article directories like ezine but if I'm having a busy week, I'll post them on my blog.

Articles like that are often spun.

"Your Internet marketing can be done free of cost if you use Twitter wisely."
"You can perform your marketing on the Internet without charge though wise use of Twitter."

And so on, allowing the person to sell several copies of (essentially) the same article.

Maybe so, but it's still unique content and google loves it :D
I don't see a problem with posting articles like this time to time, I try to post 2 or more of my articles, for every 1 that I purchase.
I've had some great comments on those articles, so they are apparently helpful for some. :)

    I'm not claiming they're worthless outright. : )

But! They're not what you want for your software's documentation. Nor for your flagship promotional materials.
