If so which platform did you change to - and what were your reasons?

I posted this on another forum but thought I'd post here too!

I'm not using vbulletin ATM, I use IPB now.
I stopped because I sold the site that I had vBulletin on
I may start another one up some day, but no plans right now.

I haven't stopped using it myself yet - but almost certainly will.

The end goal for all my sites are custom solutions, no longer do I want to be held back by the software companies and their lack of vision.

vB development before IB was v e r y slow, that improved when IB took over but their attitude to development isn't to my taste (I mean who releases a product with known bugs in it, and big ones at that!!). Besides that - I am probably never going to get anything near what I want want with an off the shelf package.

I may switch to IPB for a couple of my sites in the meantime tho (while we do custom solutions for my new projects) their CMS seems more suited to my needs than the vB one.

I haven't stopped using it on my live sites, but I've stopped thinking/worrying about vB 4 because my decision is pretty much made: I'm not touching vB 4.

My existent forums are staying on 3.8 for the time being. If by some miracle the vBulletin product (in terms of both product quality and management quality) turns around by 5.0, I may consider that option. Switching to IPB is another option to consider, but I have plenty of time before that becomes necessary.

I've switched one small site over. I may switch over another 2 or 3 smaller sites over. The larger ones, I am waiting on. They will stick with the 3.x series for now.

Agree on both points completely. I'll upgrade my board to 4.0.2 or 4.0.3. The thing is here that IB does do a lot of things - they do make mistakes (big ones!) but then they'll fix them. And they learn. the last qa was too short and 4.0.2 had too big issues. This time the qa is taking more than one week.

For all who love the old times ... vbulletin 3.8 is dead. On all new implementations of blog, project tools, social groups etc. the old team did not connect these elements how it should have connected them. In Facebook you'll see all informations being connected. In vbulletin you have a hard time knowing what's going on in your favorite social group. That's a total mess there. IPB has a cms that does not work with a bbcode editor. Does it have user right management? As far as I know - it does not have it.

My site is remaining on vB3.8 for the time being. I will not be upgrading to vB 4.

I wouldn't rule out using the vBulletin 3 series again (vB 3.7.6) to be exact, but I know for a fact I wouldn't use vBulletin 4 now. I just don't like the look of it as a forum product more than anything else, and feel if I had to now choose between IPB3 (with add-ons) and vBulletin 4. I would without doubt go IPB3. IPB also still need to get a few bugs ironed out yet though to be honest.

Right now I'm using MyBB, but I never really intended to stick with it, it just turned out that way after using a few custom plug-ins that I need, that neither IPB3 or vBulletin 3 support. Like Nick, it will be interesting to see in the future how vBulletin 5 shapes-up.

Never say never I suppose!!

    Hey SL :hello:

I've been really busy and I hadn't realised the alpha forum was still going (just noticed it's become a sub-forum).

There's loads for them to be getting on with anyway - they could prob do without me adding my suggestions every 5 minutes lol

Hope your doing well and keeping it real ;)

I switched one of my smaller forums over to IPB.

IPB is a good package, but the main detraction about it for me is, that it doesn't offer the same level of control over many of the parameters that vBulletin does.

So for now, I plan to continue running and developing IPB on my small forum and on my other larger sites, my plan is to continue running vB 3.8 until either I can't any longer, or until something better comes along to upgrade to.

Sticking with v3 for the time being, although MyBB looks worth checking out.

It is possible that some changes may happen in the future that would correct some of the problems vb is having.

I didn't realize the alpha forums were still open either til just a few days ago. Last I heard they were to be closed.
Doesn't matter anyway, I have nothing to contribute anymore, since I hate vB 4. :)

I'm still actively using vBulletin (3.8x) and will continue to do so until the 'future'. I'm definitely not into vB4.0 at this point, but we'll see if they fix the bugs and improve it enough to justify the price.

I've got one install of IPB that I'm relatively happy with. But, I have to say that I'm still a fan of the 3.8 vBulletin.

In the future, if I can get my skins/styles done on MyBB or phpBB, then I might go that route. But, for now I'm stickin' with vBulletin 3.8x. :)

I've converted all my forums to MyBB. All my forums used leased licenses so I had no choose but to convert or buy a vB4 license.

Using IPB, I have an active Vb license, but I don't expect I'll ever use it.
