It is my hope our vps is in in this place, One Wilshire Place, Los Angeles, Californiae

My understanding is that the ServInt tech support people are on the east coast, can do all of the remote operations you describe, but there is also 24/7/365 paid technical staff available for a physical presence in LA. My guess would be they are not employees of ServInt but available is something needs changing out.

I don't know. While they are on my current list of hosting providers, I've not been following up with them.

That sounds about right for the industry -- it's called remote hands. Basically, they are employees of the building itself (or of the colo provider inside that building) and are "rented" out to individual customers on an hourly (or quarter hourly basis) for ad hoc tasks or regularly scheduled maintenance.

ServInt, however, I believe is one of the few that actually has their own staff on-site at the data center.

N.B. I do not work for, or have any stake in ServInt.

I'd be surprised if anyone still was using the old crash cart over KVM/IP these days in a well funded operation (read: not some kid operating out of his basement). The hardware for that functionality has gotten to be quite reasonable in the aftermarket.

Though, I suppose as long as the job gets done.....

They do have their own staff at their main datacenter. When I call, the phone does not even ring, they answer so fast all I hear is 'Hello?'

But they have other datacenters as well, such as the one on the west coast I mentioned.

This has been a good discussion today. : )
