    Hi all!

I put together a video tutorial for the members of my site explaining the site features, navigation, and general forum usage. If anyone here has feedback for me I'd love to hear it! I'm planning to make another one for a different site I admin on as well, so I thought I'd see what you all thought about it here.

    Thanks for watching! :)

I didn't watch it all but you have a good clear voice.

Also seems that you weren't reading off a script which made it sound better.

At around 4mins the video changes and you voice seems deeper/different, What happened there?

I only watched the first 30 seconds, but it looks good to me.

One thing though, if it were me I'd make several shorter ones because people tend not to watch videos if they are long, at least I don't.

    video on basics
video on posting (aligning text, attaching pictures, etc)
video on searching for certain terms
    .....

I don't think people will want to re-watch a video to find 'how to attach to a post' in the middle of a long video, they may re-watch a 2 minute video. If people cannot figure out things then they usually either leave or send a PM/email.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback! I agree shorter vids might have been better, I just wanted to make one vid that covered all the 'essentials'. Perhaps I might consider at least separating the part of the vid which shows the post editor. :)

That's because I recorded the different parts over a period of about 3 days, so I was probably feeling more mellow that day. :D

It looks great, any reason why you used that service and not youtube?
Also I 2nd that shorter clips would be better
Keep up the good work, it sounded and looked great :)

    Thanks Brandon! :)

I use Vimeo primarily because they allow videos over 10 minutes long where You Tube doesn't. Also, the video quality is better than You Tube and You Tube basically blocks or remove videos all the time, so I'm pissed at them right now anyway. :frown:

I can understand the time limit, but I don't fully agree with the quality remark
All my latest videos are HD and I think look good?

I thought maybe it was because of the stats vimeo offers, I heard once that they have good stats as far as seeing who's watched your clips.

I just suggest youtube for the viral aspect, I think more bloggers and sites have youtube plugins, vs vimeo.

    Regards

Oh yea no doubt You Tube is sort of the 'industry standard' for video sites and is the reason I still have an account there, but Vimeo actually offers better quality if you have a plus account as I understand it. Also, the community is more artistic in the sense that I see so many great (artsy) type videos like THIS vs. You Tube being clogged with every mom & pop vid on the net.

I'm not too sure about the stats part you mentioned, I believe that is part of the plus account. I just have a regular account. Either way, I think their encoder must be better than You Tube's, at least I've noticed this in the past. You Tube is constantly changing stuff though, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have a new one. :)

Tex, that was an awesome video. Great job!

The only thing that I would do (aside from make it into a series of shorter vids) would be to end it with a nice 'closing' to the video. It kinda just abruptly ended.

Other than that, great work! :D

I watched most of the video because the staff there is something I am interested in anyway. Good quality video, and clear vocals. I have recently started using the video blogging software and it has so far been great on my bigger sites and I agree it was quite long...

I started watching it again, outstanding quality.

What screen capture program did you use, Camcasta?

Thanks very much for taking the time to watch and leave feed back guys! :) It means a lot that you took the time to watch a video for a site you'll probably never need (unless you like space and flight sims :P)! I agree about the length, I would probably separate the parts next time, but I wanted my members to see everything I covered in the video so I thought having it all as one would sort of force them to see it all, that is of course unless they closed it before it finished...

Abomination: I used CamStudio to capture the video. I then edited and rendered with Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro since I already have and use that software for my machinima films on You Tube and Vimeo. ;)

I thought it was a good video tut. I've seen longer video tuts with much less content. Of course at my age, patience is about all I have left. lol
