Somebody replied to the Are You Religious thread saying they're pleased with the response and that they'd like to see a thread like it discussing political views, so here it is.

    What's your view on politics?

Was Obama getting the slot a good move? Seen good things done since then? (You'll have to excuse me, I hardly know anything about our own government it's so corrupt, so I wouldn't know what to ask about the US government). :)

In the UK we have a Prime Minister, (like your President) Gordon Brown that wasn't actually elected into power, as the previous one resigned (Tony Blair) under the Labour Party name. Gordon Brown is a knobhead to put it simply and everybody even in his own party is trying to get him out of power. We're only a couple of week until the next election in which the Conservative Part leader David Cameron is said to win and the Labour Party is trying to create a poll of their own behind Gordons back to force his resignation so that if labour do win this election, Gordon Brown isn't the leader. It's crazy.

They're arguing over this and not actually sorting out the bloody country!

Labour over here has been in power for 12 years now and it's had its chance to sort the UK out and make it a better place and all we've seen is more handouts to illegal immigrants, schools close, corrupt claims through local MP's (member of parliament) expenses, the banks go bankrupt and we (the taxpayer) bloody bail them out to the extent that our grandchildren will still be paying the price in high taxes - whilst those that caused the banks to go bump walked away with pensions and huge salary's. (So sort of like a transfer of cash in the billions from poor to the super rich, and the government did this!).

I really feel like moving to Australia which many from the UK do. It is really really really a better place to live and create a family. Cheaper houses, less tax, more work (though still in a recession I believe), nicer weather, cheaper not rusty cars in most places as it doesn't rain like it does in the UK. And the list goes on!

I love the Icelandic view on politics, they really do include the nation in every decision. And if you have a problem with a new law or some new government system, then you can call the person who decided that and chat with them, even their prime minister! If somebody pulls out on you whilst driving, you can take their registration plate, go home, open a book that all drivers have annually and find the reg, next to it is the owners name and their phone number, and you can call them to complain!

Unlike here and in the US (the US worse I believe?) where we have a nature of 'where there's blame there's a claim' and you'd call your lawyer (solicitor here).

    Anyway,

    What's your view on politics?

When I first saw the candidates running for office I wanted slap someone and ask is this it? I told people we're really scraping the bottom of the barrel on this one. Sure I thought John McCain would have been a better choice but just barely. It was also a hoot to listen to the American voter before and after the election. The average IQ point couldn't have been over 10pts. I mean voting for a guy thinking he is going to pay all your bills is retarded and voting for or against someone based solely on race or sex is even worse. I'm real happy American elected their first half black President but at what price? The Democrats complained non stop about the cost of the Iraq/Afghan war but Obama double our debt in just 8wks in office. They told the American people the sky was falling and we was all going to die if we didn't pass that stimulus bill. The bill the democrats never bothered to read and filled with temp jobs and spending dates set to start in 2011, 2012, and 2013...it's to bad the sky has been falling down on most of America starting in 2007. But despite only spending 3% of the stimulus bill, it was a huge success and is saved the Galaxy

Anyhow, I could go on forever about this subject and even the Republicans but I got a lot of things on my plate right now. I'm just basically sick of both parties here in the states...it's basically one party claiming to be two.

If you want real change, the 2 major parties have to be removed from office.

That is why I vote for the Libertarian party.

obama, bush, clinton, bush, regan,,,,, they are all the same. Nothing but the puppets of big business and the banks.

I use to consider my self a pretty strict Republican, for the same reason many people pick up their political views, I learned them from my family who were/are all very strict Republicans. Then one day I figured out there really wasn't as much difference between the Democrats and Republicans as many would think and they all are actually more interested in being re-elected and maintaining power for their "team."

I then once I got to ask my congressman (a Republican) on a call in radio show to explain to me the constitutionality of a bill he was promoting, which in my view was unconstitutional, and he replied to the effect of, 'that really wasn't important and what was important is getting the support for the bill he needed and then they would leave it up to somebody else to work that out' I was shocked. I doubt this career politician ever read the Constitution and now he's sponsoring legislation he can't make the case for on a constitutional basis rather than an R vs D basis.

Libertarians have gained a bad name in the press, and some of which is warranted. The most recent Libertarian poster boy has been Ron Paul, who has gained much notoriety running as a Libertarian and most recently a Republican for President. I think of him more highly than most other politicians but see him as objectivist constitutionalist more than a Libertarian.

Which leads me to the achilles heel of the Libertarians, they are so independent thinking that they are actually even less organized and have more internal strife among the various factions than the Republicans if that is possible.

For those not familiar with Libertarians here's the Readers Digest version of the Libertarian philosophy.
    1. The US Constitution is the law of the land and sets the rules by which the federal government must operate NOT the rules under which the people shall be governed.
    2. I have the freedom from the government to do whatever the hell I'd like UNTIL I infringe on your right to do whatever the hell you'd like.
And that's about it simply put.

    Exactly,

They probably got another 50yrs to go before they even come close to being organized enough to give either party a good run for the office.

I'm sure that's fine. It's linking the other way that's classed as hotlinking and frowned upon. As you'd then be pinching AA's bandwidth (or a very very tiny bit of it anyway).

I wish I could get involved in this thread but I'm from over the pond as it were so I don't really understand, nor do I feel I should really comment much further than I already have on a country that isn't mine per se.

    No.
No, just the opposite, in fact. It gets worse by the day.

The fact that our president is one of the biggest liars is enough to make him an unacceptable leader. For example (and it's ironic that I just came across this thread while simultaneously reading the Drudge Report), Obama promised at least 8 times in his campaigns that the health care reform negotiations would be broadcast on C-SPAN to involve and inform the American people on exactly what is going on in regards to health care reform. Breitbart.tv The C-SPAN Lie? See Eight Clips of Obama Promising Televised Healthcare Negotiations
How much (what percentage) of these negotiations have been on C-SPAN? Anybody? Either Obama lied, or my C-SPAN programming decided to nix the televising of these negotiations, because I haven't seen any of it. Now they've PRIVATIZED the health talks (Democratic Leaders Plan Secret Health Reform Deliberations - Peter Roff (usnews.com)). How much bigger of a lie can this become? :frown:

One thing that has pleased me today is that at least somebody in California is waking up and smelling the coffee:

LOL, a fellow Drudge Report reader. Yes, I have a political view (who doesn't?) but it isn't easily identified by naming a party or affiliation. Everybody has unique opinions and views; every democrat isn't identical, for example.

Regardless, this isn't the place for intense political discussions, and I don't usually state my affiliation on a whim.

Fix the health care system. It should not be handled by 'for-profit' companies IMHO.

Nope, I calls 'em as I sees 'em.

Also known as "Independent" or "I don't succumb to the crap coming from either side. I formulate my own opinion on an issue based on facts and my own research."

The United States can't afford to have a Government run Health Care System.

The words Trillion Dollar Deficit only confirm this further.

Nor would the government be able to efficiently manage such a huge portion of our economy (one-seventh or -eighth, to be exact).

I think all politicians are idiots and should be jailed.

    In laymen's terms, I don't give a rat's ass.
