If there is a product that picks up where vBulletin 3.8.4 left off AND comes in at less of a price, it would be a big hit, I would imagine.

"From the original makers of vBulletin comes this year's newest product...."

I like the sound of that :)

That's weird, maybe vBulletin tried censoring it again? Never the less, I agree with everyone who says this whole idea sounds like an interesting prospect.

Can you link directly to the thread instead of the forumdisplay page, or can you no longer find it either?

Pretty safe to assume Kier wouldn't just disappear into thin air.

He's probably waiting for his non-compete contract to expire.

So, do you think whatever Kier is working on will be some extremely high quality product?

LOL, I would be surprised if it wasn't a quality product.

I really, really hope Kier decides to produce forum software but somehow I suspect it will be a different project altogether.

If he went into forums, I'd buy it immediately and I reckon I'd be in a long queue.

However if that were the case the earliest it'd probably surface ot even be confirmed would be 12 months after he left vBulletin, there will likely be a clause preventing it from happening any sooner for obvious reasons.

With the skills Kier has, I wouldn't be shocked if he did release his own software. Mike Sullivan could also be working with him on something as well.

Well I sure hope this is true and that Kier is working on something!

And non-compete clauses are great, but I doubt it would stop Kier from working on developing something.

So he might have to wait, or be restricted for some period of time before before he can actually sell or profit on something, but I would seriously doubt they could stop him from writing code.

At the end of the day, courts have generally upheld the principal that people have to work and earn a living, so they are very reluctant in most places to enforce non-compete agreements between companies and employees.

When they might be more favourable to IB, would be in the case of Kier starting a competing business, which by the sounds of things, might more be the case with what Kier is up to.

Regardless, personally, I think it's just a matter of time before vBulletin loses marketshare and hits the skids. vBulletin's arrogance and incompetence closely resembles Infopop's back a few years ago and they (Infopop)went from market leader to has-been very quickly.

There is no-doubt that a large group of vBulletin's customer's are seriously sour and would love to do nothing more than dump vBulletin. And the obvious holdup for many, lies in the fact that vBulletin is familiar and still argueably the best product on the market, at least in it's 3.8 series form.

Whether this is true or not, I have no-doubt in my mind, that Internet Brands and vBulletin's day of reckoning is coming.

    <crosses fingers>

Guys you are taking this way too seriously... Please don't treat it as fact, ok? I think it'll happen, but please don't take it as fact and sell your licenses or anything lol.
I don't wanna be responsible for anyone's hopes being let down or something. I'm sure Kier will speak out when/if there is anything solid to say.
