I checked a long list of their owned forums, and literally ONE was using vBulletin 4. That was using a beta of it too, and it took about 3 minutes to actually load the page.

Funny enough, about TWO forums were even using vBulletin 3.8, and NONE were using vBulletin 3.8.4. Two were using vBulletin 3.5! 2 were actually using phpBB 2 still! Two were using custom software... and in an irony to laugh at for years, one was using GROUPEE! In case you don't know, Infopop make Groupee. You know, the guys who made UBB and who vBulletin split off from?

For interesting thoughts, about half the forums were nearly completely dead. And about 10% broke the vBulletin licensing by trying to hide the copyright text on a same coloured background!

So no, if Internet Brands don't trust vBulletin 4 (or even 3.8!), why should we?

    Alright, I'll admit it, I'm using 3.8.4 and I love it:D

I actually ran across a forum yesterday running 4.0 and It's okay I guess but I'm not completely sold on it yet.

wow cheat master...that was quite a research effort you did there. quite informative I do agree.

I've come across a site for awhile that was previously running 3.6. They ran a drive to generate funds to upgrade to vb4. It's a rather large forum from what I can tell and appears that the conversion went pretty well...as it is with the Gold version. Note that the site ONLY did Forums. ;)

I see so many ppl on .com forums stating so many problems with their migrations and even for fresh installs, which are more for CMS, rather than forums classic.

Anyone just planning to use or have been finding Forums Classic is just fine?

I don't see why people are finding anything wrong with vb4.0. It's a great product. The licensing is fair just and true. And, I feel that the company internet brands are a top notch company who thinks about it's customers as well as a profit to maintain the longevity of it's success. They have made good decisions after next and this has resulted in nothing but happy customers, the consumers. You. Then I woke up and thought this could have been a nice scenario, pity it's a mere dream I had a few nights ago when a mysterious log cabin with legs chased me down broke back mountain.

Yes, kettle, black and all the things you associate with hypocrisy does come to mind but hey let's ride the waves and surf we must be expecting the next big wave soon knowing IB.

I'm using 3.8.4 and plan to stay with it, at least until May, or possibly June.

Many of those sites have hacks that are not yet ported to 4.0, they too are at the mercy of those that code.

Seeing stuff like this makes me wish I was in charge.

Those would all be 4.0.0 by now.

    And 4.0.0 wouldn't have any issues. :D

do you really think companies like IB would update their whole network to 4.0 the first weeks it's out?
I'm positive all those forums are intergrated in a what that a simple update isn't always as easy as you think.
I know a similar company I've done some work for (Crowdgather - Find it on Forums) have plans to upgrade their network to 4.0, but it's not as easy as uploading the new files and running the upgrade.php script.
I would suggest people focus on their own sites, and not worrying about what IB is doing, but that's just my opinion ;)

They could at least update to a more modern version for about half of them, since it must be far more difficult to keep four different versions of vBulletin integrated in one big whole than it is to keep one version running on each site. I mean, is it really seen as greatly practical to run one site on vB 3.6, one on vB 3.5, one on vB 3.7, one on vB 3.8 and one on vB 4.0 all integrated into the same database?

Hi all. Anders here from InternetBrands. I am actually managing most of the sites you have listed in this thread and it is correct - they are still on version 3.7/3.8. While this is a rather acute observation there is not any conspiracy here. Truth of the matter is that we have loads of proprietary products rolled out across the entire network; as you know - these products require additional tweaks to work with 4.0. The team that's also responsible for upgrading these sites to 4.0 has actually also been busy contributing to the vB 4.0 product itself. We've been benchmarking and testing certain features, helping with other various bits and pieces. Now that the product is out and solid we've started putting together a gameplan to get 90+ sites onto the 4.0 platform; but this feat is nothing we can accomplish overnight.

Good luck with all that Anders. It will be quite interesting, to say the least, to see what happens to those communities when 4.0 is thrust upon them
