What is your opinion of this? Do you allow it?

    I have mixed feelings.

    1) Eh, who cares if they screw people over.
    2) Not to allow them because they are not complying with US laws regarding non-profit agencies, etc., and we cannot make sure that the people doing it are legit

    Thoughts?

I allow it only for bona fide charity drives that have all the paperwork in place and can supply it upon request.

To make things simple, we do not allow any soliciting of funds, advertisers, or sponsors on my forum.

I'm running a charity drive on my site, you can check it out here. I'm not running anything directly but am challenging all the members of my site to contribute a single game fee to the charity of their choice and then report back the amount and the charity back to the site to keep a running total for 2010. I've received very positive feedback both from posts and PM's several members have come up with interesting ways to expand this. I feel it's going to be hugely successful.

Someone tried this on one of the site I visit. It did not end well, mostly because people though he was scamming in the end. As such, I don't think you can do that on that site anymore.

Read my own thread about this after reading this one posted here. I also feel it's not a good idea for reasons some people should be aware off posted on my own site. Which is a genuine real case that happened with me and my best mate many years ago.

The reason I allow it is that many of the regional MINI Clubs are involved in charitable efforts. My local club, MetroplexMINI, runs a few charity drives a year for various causes. This year we assited the North Texas Foodbank and we always do the Toys for Tots groups around the holidays. MINI USA encourages the clubs to become involved and produces the MINI Motoring Hearts Grille Badges as well.

You just have to be aware of who you allow to post about charitable events.
