What are your thoughts on sending a "Happy Holidays" e-mail to your members? I think I'm going to send one this afternoon, but I'd like to hear your thoughts and see if any of you guys do it on your own forums. :)

Would you mind posting what you send, or at least mention what you include in the message? I'm never great at writing, so I need some samples to get my creative juices flowing. :P

    Thanks!

I usually keep it very simple, no long messages. I don't think they appreciate it.

Mine usually consists of something like -

"Just a short note to thank all of you for your faithfulness to our site, and to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas, and a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year.

While you're enjoying your holidays with family and friends, please remember those who are defending our country, and say a special prayer for our troops' safety.

    Warm regards,
    Peggy"

I send out a newsletter about every two weeks. In the latest one sent on the 20th I did include a holiday message.

I sent one last year, but something seemed to happen this year and my members didn't receive them. I pull a list of members form the admin CP and email them a image type card using outlook mail merge. My tests all worked but none of my mods sid they got one when I asked.

Nice idea, Warren! You could try installing the "send HTML email" modification that allows you to send HTML e-mails from the AdminCP, and include the image. That might work.

Nick, I thought that your AdminAddict holiday email was perfect and I kinda copied it ;)

I've been averaging only about 25 to 30 members logging in over the last couple of days (vacations, shopping, etc), so we'll see how many folks visit and send some nice responses. :)

I like the GAZ mod, it allows you to add HTML to your newsletters.
I've always thought text only emails from big sites are kind of boring.

Why not just use the "send HTML e-mails" modification if HTML is all you're after? ;)

I really should start sending holiday emails to my users.

I just don't think of the holidays other than on the days we actually gather with our family (which was today, this year).

I just need to start thinking of others' views on this time of year. :o

I don't know why, but I've never sent one. I sort of copied yours too, it was perfect. I received a lot of nice replies. I'll make sure I do this every year now too.

It also keeps me up to date with the bounced emails too.

nice thread Nick - was just getting ready to send out a message when I read it

got some nice replies back from folks, and have a bunch of bounces to process now

btw, the following hack works great for bounced mail sorting --> EZ Bounced Email It is in the 3.6.x section of vb.org, but is working fine on my 3.8.4

    Happy Holidays all :-)
