For basic sites, generally Dreamhost is fairly decent, altho there has been a lot of slow service or downtime lately.

Even when backing up my files I get connection errors or frozen connections left and right.

I'm uploading one site to my new server, and it's been perfect so far. No frozen connections or errors. :)

Unfortunately, I was a little too zealous when I first got my Dreamhost account and I paid through 2013. I wish I'd saved my money now. :(

I've been getting some MySQL connection issues over the last week or two with them. But, it hasn't been too bad so far. Although, I have three different companies that I use for hosting right now and have been happy with all thus far. :D

Cant you get your money back for the pre-paid years if you dont want to use them and shift hosting for the other sites?

If I could, that would be wonderful, tho I'm not sure if I can or not. I guess I should check into that! ;)

I think that they only give you credit for more hosting, tho, and not a refund. :(

If they offer that I would ask if they can swap that for domain credits or whatnot instead :D

That's not too bad of an idea. :D

I'll see what I can do. If I can get a refund, I might just go for another dedi. :D

I'm using JustHost as my site incubator host. I have a couple 3 year plans that I got for like $70 each.

Just joined this forum, to give you a tip. I host with dreamhost, and they are not bad considering they are so cheap. In saying that I have learn how to get a bit of money back from them. First read Web Hosting by DreamHost Web Hosting: Web Sites, Domain Registration, WordPress, Ruby on Rails, all on Debian Linux!, then get a free account with pingdom.com. Use free pingdom account to track downtime. as long as the downtime was not your doing and they did not warn you, they will credit your account. I signed up for a year and then got 1 month free this way.

I just do not like the way dreamhost treats new customers better then existing customers.

Yeah I had 3 separate accounts with them and had them move me to different servers a few times it was the same old same old a bunch of databases piled on crappy database servers making the entire site slow. I finally canceled the last account over the summer. I guess they're okay for static sites but DB powered sites run like crap; since most of my sites are either vBulletin or Wordpress powered we cannot have that.
