    3.8.4

There are many methods in detecting software version. :P Visiting the modcp is one of them. :P

With vb4.0 coming soon you would be best stating whether you'll be requiring additional work in the way of upgrades if you decide that you want to upgrade your forum thus you'll want your skin upgraded to match.

I know which version she's using, silly. That doesn't mean it's the version she wants a skin designed for, lol.

Did you just call me a she? I am indeed a gay man, but she is going a bit far! :p

Hm, yes my 3.8.4 is the one I'd ideally like one made for. I'll get back to you on this - I do own the license for a VB Publishing Suite - 150 pounds it cost me. I was just very put off by numerous comments that VB4 was essentially a bag of crap! There's no point in paying for a layout, if it won't work on the upgrade (should I decide to go through with it).

I'm a bit of a dud with styling - say I paid for the new design now, would it be relatively easy to upgrade the style to VB4's requirements...or do we not know this until the Gold release?

Styles for vB 3x will not work in vB4. You will have to have it done all over again for vB 4.

SORRY! you never know if he's a she or she's a he with some of these usernames, lol.

URGH. I know this is probably in the wrong place, but have you had any experiences with VB4 yet ... i.e. is it worth installing? I'd probably end up hiring somebody for that too! lol

Depends. vB4 really doesn't offer much in the way of ground breaking new features or anything. Its more personal preference than anyting at this point I suppose.

vB4 is the greatest thing since sliced bread!
I won't, however, be upgrading to it myself ;)

    PM sent ;)

vB4.0 is an interesting thing. Seems like most things were written from scratch in an effort to make the 3.x.x series null and void. Why the designers chose to do that, as I don't necessarily see a benefit in the main code changes tbh... It's nice though - I like some of the enhancements - it's not like a ton of major features have been added except for the CMS imo... I will not be upgrading my forums to the 4.0 series anytime soon ((I'd imagine there'd be at least 100 man hours involved in upgrading everything per forum - probably more than 100 arg...))

Any new projects I begin will probably make use of the 4.0 I suppose... IDK...

You would be a fool to purchase the services for a vbulletin 4.0 style. Firstly, it's still in beta and they'll be rolling out many more betas and release candidates before gold. So, at the earliest I would wait for gold and even then the majority of 3rd party scripts if not all for the 3 series will not work so you are going to be left with the same feature list as vb3 without the variety of hacks.

Even when vbulletin goes gold there will be patches released as with other releases.

Personally, I would wait for the later versions of 4 for the features that will be added and even then it's no guarantee that the features that the developers implement will be of any use to you.

Stick with vb3 for the time being and develop that because vb4 won't be something that differs from vb3 untill the latter stages of the vb4 development.

Just my stinking 2 cents worth. :2cents:

    OKAY - UPDATE:

I've decided I don't want a whole new skin, just a decent banner. I refuse to pay designer prices, but want a designer finish. I have a fixed width forum, and would require the banner in three different forms - each with a different font

You "refuse" to pay designer prices? HA! If that is not the most laughable thing I've read today - then I'm gonna be laughing my @ss off all night...

Anyway - what type of pricing does your budget call for? You're making the request - so it would be good of you specify what you're willing to pay as to not waste everybody's time.

Okay, maybe I pissed you off a little with my original post - if so, then I apologize as that wasn't my intention. :speechless:

Anyway, don't matter :) Thanks for the post though.

Meh. It'll take more than that to piss me off - I'm pretty easy-going LOL
But I just ask for clarification, as I do design banners/headers/logos. Obviously other Members of the forum do design work as well - so yeah - You posted that you need help and not willing to pay what you say is "designer prices" but you want an awesome result. An old adage comes to mind ==> You get what you pay for. But yeah - just asking for clarification of your budget so that I and others can see if your request is even worth our time ;)

^ Eep. Time to come back with my tail between my legs :o

Anyway, my budget is $200. Ideally I'd love a decent site design, but like you said, you get what you pay for, and I don't think anybody would be willing to design me a decent vb4 skin for $200 ;) Jacqui, your designs look VERY professional, almost perfection to be quite honest! lol. Whilst that is a desirable quality, along with that comes a hefty price tag. Maybe there are some more less expert designers that are willing to help me out, and work with the $200 budget, and design me a VB4 skin with banner?

What I would suggest is getting a paid skin and a custom logo
you can get a nice paid skin for 30-40 and a custom logo for 25$

just my 2 cents if money is an issue
