David, please share your thoughts, what do you find bad about it? I'm working through it myself this morning, I'll hold off on mine until I dig a little deeper.
I like what I've seen so far I'll be digging into things much deeper this weekend but so far no regrets with paying for the suit!
So far so good, like what I see. There is a steep learning curve with some of the newer items but in time and by working together we'll all become proficient. Worked on porting over one of our products for a bit last night as well and found no showstoppers. The port is no where near complete but we able to get the basics running.
good to hear I have a client that already wants their site updated I'm going to setup a test site for them and see how that all works out for us.
Brandon, make them wait a bit if you can! I went through this with IP.Board, and it can get really hairy when something comes up -- and this was with RCs. If they insist, I suppose as long as they are patient and maintain plenty of backups, they'll make it. I know the actual new functionality is difficult to wait for when you're running a website sometimes.
I told them that I wouldn't suggest going live, but he just wants to get in and play, so do I it wont go live before gold is out, but I would be surprised if its' much past gold ha, exactly I'll cut him a break, he's been a good guy/client/friend
Had a play on a test mirror earlier but I can't make it work - needs php 5.2.1 which I find a little silly...they've never set the minimum version to such a recent one as that before. My host, in common with a huge number of others, uses 5.1.6. I don't recall this minimum version being mentioned either, else I'd not have bothered trying (obviously). Not to worry, it was only on a test anyway, but it will put back my attempts to recode my site vb4 until early next year.
Sign up with Hostgator? 30 day $ back guarantee, then close it? PHP - 5.2.11 MySQL - 5.1.30 ?
Looking through most of it with the CMS disabled it really doesnt seem worth the money at all, its like all we have paid for is an updated style which we wont use and a CMS which we also wont use. Has the whole script been made faster/efficient as I cant feel much difference at all, at least not yet.
1 - I've read/heard that the CSS backbone makes page loads much faster, since there aren't as many images to cache anymore. I don't know though. Hopefully somebody can confirm. 2 - Remember that each new version (.1, .2, .3, etc.) will bring about new changes as they are going by an iterative development strategy. Different aspects will be adjusted and improved upon for each version. By the end of 4.x, you will see a very different and improved product (well, I can't say that you 'will' - but you should).
I really hope so Nick. Does the main css part work still or do you have to use the stylevars section? EDIT: or both even?
